Re: Scrivener 2.0... It's here.

Sooo 'me too' of me, but just wanted to say upgrading was a snitch and I like the new version.
Well done all. Rock on.
Cheers, Peter

Re: What templates do you want in Scrivener 2.0?

[quote="KB"]There are a number of minor bugs that need fixing that I won't have time to fix for Monday, so I expect the 2.0.1 update will be out in mid-late November (but never quote me on release dates). It's that or put off releasing for a couple more weeks, and I don't think that would ...

Re: Resistance is Not Futile

I think the part that we, those who are unafflicted, simply can't fathom is the compounded psychological pounding ... My conversations with Mr K, carried out off the forums, has caused me to be much more thoughtful when approaching situations where folks are struggling to "get it done". T...

Re: Resistance is Not Futile

OK Vic. Thanks for elaborating.
I think I get it: (the thought of an 'imperative' and the response to it -- to the thought).

As I said to Karen, 'Crikey.' -- I appreciate you both (all?) ... and the illumination.
I didn't know about this. regards, - P

Re: Resistance is Not Futile

"But, however heartfelt the wanting, and the initial anticipation of pleasure in its execution, once something acquires an imperative like; Must be Done’; ‘Got to...’; No choice!’ etc. it assumes the mantle of a thankless or arduous task." 'A gift much expected is paid , not given.' <-- s...

Re: Resistance is Not Futile

Thanks for sharing that Vic. Nice writing. ("Both notions fell at the first miniscule hurdle." - sweetly put, mate.) I know that feeling .. the Knowing what you "gotta do" ... but failing to engage. Psycho-analysing myself, sometimes it can be because I don't feel 'confident' in ...

Re: Tips for marking up comments into someone else’s manuscript?

A few tips: When using the annotation feature, put your initials at the front of it followed by a colon. Then make sure the Annotation label separator is set to ` : ` in the Typography section of preferences. Now when you use ghost notes, just the initials will pop out from the manuscript and the r...

Re: Resistance is Not Futile

Either way, writing is uncomfortable and the default position is not getting on with it. VERY well put J. Ain't that the truth? And yet, we can launch into bursts of it, s-l-a-v-i-n-g over a hot keyboard, inwardly soooo happy to be just 'doing it'. (She's a strange thing, joy.) The resistance — and...

Re: Other boards, or why do I torture myself like this...?

Constructive, thoughtful criticism is more likely to help a person grow and improve. People point scoring at your expense is a common internet factor, thanks to the level of anonymity that many choose. Yes. That is how it worked for our (non-anonymous) crit group. I'm happy to report we managed to ...

Re: Other boards, or why do I torture myself like this...?

my impression of many writers' boards is that they are full of people just waiting to tear others to shreds. I've hung around enough of them to know that I would never put anything up on most of them. The secrets: reciprocity and accountability A really useful approach (i.e. it worked for me) is to...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't add words to dictionary with Snow Leopard

Yes, and besides selecting it (Australian English) and dragging it to the top of that list in the Language tab, I've found it useful to ALSO make sure you go to the 'Text' tab in the Language & Text system pref and select your Spelling language (top RH pop-up list) from 'Automatic by language' t...

Re: Scrivener crashes in Snow Leopard

ZERO issues re Scriv crashing with Snow Leopard. Seems good. (10.6.1 - unibody MPB 13" 2.5Ghz) I upgraded two days ago and have been working it hard. SFSG. The changes in SL to the spelling (set in 'Language & Text' in System Prefs) caught me though -- needed to set the Spelling Language to...

In praise of the 'forbidden' delete icon

As for the delete icon, I definitely agree on that one and have added it to the list to provide an icon more like the one in the image you provided. Er, not so fast! That 'forbidden' icon for delete is sprinkled throughout my system -- in Mail.app, as a customised Finder window and in Scriv, MarsEd...
