You can see this info in the Outliner view. You may need to enable the relevant Word Count and Total Word Count columns.

Re: SCRIVENER & ENDNOTE & bibliography

Also, as has been noted on this forum before, CWYW for Word is itself the work of Endnote, not the maker (MS) of the app it works with. Of course, what made that possible is the fact that MS had set up an entire internal programming language (VBA) for Word that made it possible to write macro progra...

Re: SCRIVENER & ENDNOTE & bibliography

I have been an Endnote user since version 1 of that software. Seriously. Endnote temporary citations are the the only way to go whether you are Working in Word or Scrivener. And when you produce final copy, be sure to produce a final copy that eliminates all the field codes in your output (Word doc)...

Re: A catastrophe, far too easily created

I got a little noise and a 'moved file' message, but I didn't think it was a big deal. I just dragged it back again. However, it didn't work. I've searched for the problem, and it seems I have got the situation where I have the scrivx file, but not all the gubbins inside it. ... ... I use either Go...

Re: Move of Scrivener project from Dropbox resulted in text files emptying

I would want to know more about step (3). On my Mac you cannot drop a Scriv project in the finder sidebar and have anything happen unless you drop it into a folder (alias) that is stationed there. So, I am thinking part of the story has to do with where that scriv project got dropped and how your gr...

Re: In-Line Annotation Colors

It sounds like you made paragraph styles when what you really wanted were character styles.

Also, since your style key commands won’t work as toggles, you need to define a character style to get you back to normal black text.

Re: Anyone Use Scrivener?

Any advice as to where the best place to learn how to use this stupid program is? It does seem asking for an example project from the writer/director would be the fastest, easiest way to get going. You could make fresh copies of it and replace its particular content components piecemeal. -gr P.S. A...

I took you to mean that you do not maintain a backup of your harddrive.

Unless you explicitly turned off Scrivener’s own backup function in Scriv preferences, you /do/ have backups of your project — though these may be in zip archives.

Re: Is there a formalism for bracketing text that is not to be printed?

You can accomplish this with the Replacements function of Compile. You can specify a replacement in the third column of the main compile dialog box, or can specify replacement within a particular compile setting. You will need to craft a regex expression to target a unique bracketing of your choice ...

Re: A catastrophe, far too easily created

Scrivener, by default I believe, makes a backup copy of a Sciv project when you close it. Since you are using projects on multiple devices, you must be very often closing your projects before opening them on other devices. So, Scriv will most likely have a very current back up stored of your complet...

Re: Confirm Quit

Yeah, I'd recommend an approach of that nature. It would be very unusual to ask for confirmation on quit, especially in a program that auto-saves like Scrivener. Maybe a preference (off by default) that allows such a confirmation to be used by people who want it and don't want to remap their key bi...

Re: Scrivener users, where do you backup your files?

I keep only certain live Scriv projects in my Dbox folder — the ones I want access to on ios Scriv. I have Scriv set to automatically make a zipped backup when I close a project. These are stored on my Mac’s hard drive. I use an external hard drive to back up my mac. (Okay, actually there are two: o...

Re: New search bar behavior is confusing and inconvenient, help?

If the Project Search field (over the Binder area) is already open and has an existing search term in it : 1) If the search field still has focus (you didn’t do anything since typing the search word), type cmd-A to select what is there and then type your new search, OR click the ‘x’ not in the searc...
