Re: Moving / importing from old mindmap service to scapple

True, but on the other hand, Scapple understands nodes and connections, and so it is unfortunate that it can’t import something with existing nodes and connections — such as the return delimited & tab structured outline text one can pull out of hierarchical mindmaps. Katherine has a good point t...

Re: Moving / importing from old mindmap service to scapple

You can drop various kinds of files onto an open Scapple doc to import text and break it into separate notes on a delimiter you specify. See section 9.1 of the Scapple manual. However, such import is just bringing in note text. It is not trying to recover tree structure as you would, presumably, be ...

Re: How to collapse chapter titles, and move any section to another place in the doc

I have been a big user of Word’s outline mode, but find I can reproduce in Scrivener all of the functionality that I effectively used there. Structuring and rearranging at the level of scene-pulses or scenes or chapters or whatever is super easy with Scrivener’s Binder or its (document-level) Outlin...

Well, if you feel you must abandon the Sorry genre and turn this into haberdashery fiction, that'll suit just me fine.

Re: Major Problem: Copying Text From Word With Changes Implemented

In the XML, 'voir dire' is set to use the font "TimesNewRomanPS-ItalicMT". I note that on my (somewhat dated) Word this font designation appears verbatim in the toolbar Font field. The regular roman text is set to "TimesNewRomanPSMT". Here is a first guess: these font designation...

Re: Major Problem: Copying Text From Word With Changes Implemented

TromboneAl, 1) As a doublecheck, I would make a copy of the trouble Word document in question and Accept All Changes. Then see if copy and paste of that passage works as expected. Worth a try? 2) Though this is unlikely to have gotten by you, one way you might have unaccepted changes and not realize...

Re: Why are my shortcuts grey?

Have you updated to Scrivener 3.1.4 -- which is for Catalina-compatibility? It was released in the last few days. If you bought Scrivener direct from L&L, you can just use the Check for Updates menu item to get it. If you bought through the app store, last I heard it was in process with Apple an...

Re: Text files not counted in Word Count

I’m feeling lucky today. I am going to guess both of these folders are at the top level of the binder — and that the first of them is the blessed Draft folder (renamed) and the other is, well, just a folder (probably created by duplicating the original Draft folder. If this is right, then the trick ...

Re: Sharing a project between two different users of Scrivener

Hi, Skier, Fellow Scrivener user here. Welcome to the forums. A) The reference you make to ‘up to n family users’ is about the license for the software, meaning you can install the software on several computers within your family. This has nothing particularly to do with collaboration , which is wha...

Re: Can't get Scapple to quit

Sometimes to do (1) or (2) you need to get away from the frozen app, i.e., not have it be the frontmost application. This can often be accomplished by just clicking on your Desktop in order to make Finder frontmost.

Re: How do you use Label and Status fields?

I like Labels a lot, but how I use them depends on the sort of project I am engaged with. And I have the option switched on to have label colors tint the Binder icons, so I can always see my labels at a glance. Highly recommended! Since Labels are also searchable by name, you can easily make smart c...

Without meaning to pile on, same here. I keep digital purchase receipts and maintain a database of essential info. But I wonder if this habit will only turn up in folks who grew into computer technology during a somewhat earlier era. —gr

Re: The Shortcut for Footnotes

I don’t know why you are having that conflict, but what I do know is this: You can set the key command to any menu item to anything you want via Apple > System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shortcuts.. gr P.S. FWIW, I only use inline footnotes. In my installation, the toggle for ...

Re: Drop Cap - How to do this?

A) The No Answer Drop caps are definitely a page-layout thing (not a writing thing). You will not, I think, find any facility for doing drop caps per se in Scrivener. So, this is something you might need to do manually after the compile stage. B) The Yes Answer That said, if your output format suppo...
