Re: Big Sur is coming closer ...

I first got a MacBook Pro only a couple of years ago (new but older model) and had to update to Sierra to run Scriv 3. One thing that kind of surprises me about Mac users is how so many update the operating system annually. Can someone tell me why they bother? I have a desktop running Windows 7 now...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

A small note: don’t consider hardware without software. Apple has best integration between the two; that is what I (am happy to) pay for.

In any case, this thread is not the place to talk about Apple’s pricing strategy XD.

Re: Help with embedded LaTeX + a big question

I would like to note you can easily replicate Scrivenings (which is really a killer feature IMO) using this command: cat [file names] > scrivenings.md However, Scrivener is much more convenient. At best, that's a weak facsimile of Scrivenings, not an easy replication. The whole point of Scrivenings...

Re: Help with embedded LaTeX + a big question

Thanks so much for the detailed answer! The Scrivener workflow listed is very helpful. It’s clarified a lot of my questions about this kind of workflow within Scrivener Your explanation of Scrivener compared to text editors + utilities is a good one as well. I would like to note you can easily repli...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

I’ve found that my iPad expectations were pretty unrealistic. Thanks to everyone here for the reality check.

Here’s another place where the iPad/Mac relationship is discussed.

Help with embedded LaTeX + a big question

Two problems, looking for solutions. Problem 1 I want to be able to write in Scrivener, with LaTeX citation keys, tables, equations, etc. I've parsed these forums and am slightly confused about all the solutions found. I want to be able to write into Scrivener, using regular styling (if possible), a...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

To be honest, if everything goes to plan with Scrivener, this wonderful writing app will single-handedly cause me to switch back to macOS. Thanks for the explanation KB, really appreciate your hard work. Keep it up! Taking off my L&L support hat, and speaking as a long time observer of the semic...

Re: Bear for iOS

My thoughts: 1) Scrivener = awesome 2) Bear = okay, but is a subscription (yuck) and doesn’t have the power of Scrivener While I’m disappointed with Scrivener for iOS’ lack of modern features like: 1) context menus 2) robust mouse support 3) drag and drop 4) iCloud syncing/Files integration 5) Short...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

Also, even if KB doesn’t add any features, he’ could at least do some maintenance updates. Adding in context menus, drag and drop, and multi window functionality doesn’t really affect how Scrivener iOS works, it’s just a good quality of life update. Provided that iOS supports them. When iOS Scriven...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

argh, you’re not following me either. Since Apple made more features into iPadOS, more people are moving to iPads as main computers. Not too many people, but a good chunk. A portion of these people will want to use Scrivener, and they will be willing to pay for Scrivener. However, less people will b...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

I feel like with the latest developments in iPadOS, a lot more people are using iPads as their primary computers, so I think Literature and Latte should make developing iPad’s Scrivener a priority once Windows 3.0 is finally released. Just remember to set expectations wisely: a lot of Apple's work ...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

You could use a remote access app, like Splashtop, so that you can access the desktop version of Scrivener on your iPad! As awesome as this plan sounds, there are three reasons why it’s not viable for me: 1. While iOS Scrivener is within my budget, macOS Scrivener is not. 2. The lag makes it unusab...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

Wow. First off, thanks for all your responses. They were all super helpful for my decision. Secondly... man. Scrivener on iOS seems like it’s not Scrivener at all. Literally all the things that make Scrivener unique and useful are missing/mostly unusable. Unfortunately, it looks like I’ll have to gi...

Re: Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

Can you elaborate on that? What’s missing/limited and how?

I understand that features won’t be the same (such is the life of an iPad-only user) but how different are the two platforms? Would you say the features are 80% equal? 50%

Thanks for your help!

Features on Scrivener iOS: Equal to Mac?

I've been thinking about buying Scrivener on iOS. After using the Scrivener free trial for Mac, I feel that Scrivener is a good fit for me. However, I'm wondering about feature parity between the two platforms. Are any major Scrivener features missing/drastically broken on iOS compared to Mac? Is th...
