Re: Sendingtopublisher

What does the recipient want? Many publishers are very specific about submission requirements and will just discard anything that doesn't follow their rules.

If you have a pre-existing relationship, ask them. If you don't, check their website for submission instructions.

Re: Unreadable code when copy Chinese characters in PDF compiled by Scrivener

What are you pasting into? What if you compile to an editable format, such as RTF or Word? PDFs are visual documents. They aren't really intended to be editable. Which means that if the PDF looks like you want it to, Scrivener has done its job. Dealing with text copied from a PDF is the responsibili...

Re: How to RETAIN extra white spaces when compiling?

What exactly did you do? Blank pages? Extra padding between paragraphs? Something else?

And did the Compile command just revert it to standard formatting, or something else?

Re: Beta to Full Transition.

When Mac Scrivener 3 came out of beta, the last beta continued to work until its expiration date. People could install the release version at any point. There was no "gap" when neither a working beta nor a release version was available. Note that the expiration date is hard-coded into the ...

Re: Add Page Break

I'd look for stray empty lines in between the bottom of page 4 and the image on page 6. It's also possible that the image is slightly too big and is forcing the blank line above it onto the previous page. View -> Text Editing -> Show Invisibles is helpful to show stray paragraph breaks and other inv...

Re: Snapshot and spinng ball

Several hundred snapshots? Yes, that definitely might cause performance issues.

One thing to try would be to duplicate the project and then purge all or most of the snapshots, and see if that helps.

Re: Is Scrivener for PC worth it?

Scrivener is amazing for organizing your projects into multiple levels, and breaking them up into as many pieces as you need. It may not do much for composition, but you can get the most important stuff underway with this software. However. I would not condone paying $50 for it. I wouldn't even con...

Re: Snapshot and spinng ball

What version of Scrivener and with what version of Mac OS?

How big is the project, and how big is (are) the specific document(s) that you're snapshotting?

What does the crash report say?

Re: Compiling to docx problems

Scrivener has no knowledge of Word's "normal" template, or even whether Word is installed on your system. It doesn't refer to it at all when compiling to a Word document. The alternatives are to adjust Scrivener's own Compile format to achieve the formatting you want, or to have Word apply...

Re: No binder.scrivproj?

Scrivener is not capable of obliterating its own internal structure. That is, it is not possible to completely remove the .scrivx file, the Files/Data folder, or any other component of the Scrivener project structure from within Scrivener. (As opposed to your own data files, which it *can* change.) ...

Re: Going to be brutally honest: this software is a hot bloated mess of jank.

I'm honestly not sure why people are in love with this software. It's bloated and full of distractions, the compiling is a horrific pain to learn to do correctly, and apparently the editor I use before submission/agent hunting won't accept any Scrivener-formatted manuscripts because they turn out t...

Re: Dodgy file causing problems

In case anyone else gets this, I have now solved the problem. All the text had - somehow - been squeezed into a single cell table. Selected the strange bit, removed table, sorted. I'm surprised Show Invisibles didn't help, then, as I find it especially helpful for showing hidden tables. For future ...

Scrivener's Sync with External Folder command is the "official" way to give third party applications access to Scrivener projects.

Re: Cost of Windows 3 version

I'm curious what the upgrade price for current owners of 1.9 will look like... For those who purchased since Win Scrivener 3 was announced (November 2017), free. For people who purchased before that, we haven't announced a price yet, but the comparable discount for Mac Scrivener 3 was 45%. Katherine
