Re: Location Access Error

The file in your screenshot is a backup and a ZIP file. You'll need to uncompress it first, as Scrivener can't open ZIP files directly. However, your live project is probably somewhere else, anyway. Search for "Love in Reverse" in whatever directory you use for your own files, not the AppD...

Re: Styles: how they will be?

I am one of those users that seldom use styles in Scrivener (as opposed to in Word) and highlighting all that instead of the few styled pieces seems illogical. That is why the thought was that it would be a non-default temporary view overlay, so most users would never see it. But if it could be tog...

What lunk said.

It sounds like you inadvertently saved a copy of Project D inside itself. I'd recommend dropping the support team a line. It's not that hard to fix the mess, but it's a bit tedious and not easily handled through the forum.

Re: Sync via Dropbox - selected projects

Only changed files will sync but, as you noted, Dropbox still has to walk the directory to see which files have changed. On the Mac, to prevent a project from syncing you can either move it out of the Dropbox folder entirely or de-select it in the Dropbox Preferences -> Sync pane. On the iPhone, mov...

Re: Styles: how they will be?

It's possible to define a highlight box as part of a style: any text with that style will be highlighted in the color you choose. (Only in the Editor for your use, not in the output document.) See Figure 15.14 in the Mac Scrivener 3 manual.

Re: Markdown Support?

I loved writing a 400-page thesis in Scrivener and would love to come back. But I must realise that once a markdown text is beyond a very rudimentary drafting stage, it can only be imported into Scrivener with substantial manual clean-up, which one wouldn't want to repeat. Any further editing etc. ...

Also, please review the Interactive Tutorial, available from the Help menu. It answers this and other common questions about the Scrivener interface.

Re: My file won't open properly

The simplest way would be to install the trial version of Scrivener 3, which is supported with Mojave and may resolve the issue. Once you get the project open, you can use the File -> Export command to extract the component files. Alternatively, locate the project in Finder (with Scrivener closed), ...

Re: My file won't open properly

Scrivener 2.8.1 is not officially supported with any version of Mac OS after 10.12.

Your work is stored separately from the Scrivener application, and is accessible without having Scrivener installed at all.

Did you try resetting the project display settings?

Re: Scriv 3 not opening files

Make sure you have Scrivener 3.1.4, our Catalina-compatibility update.

Are you opening the project directly from Finder, or using Scrivener's Recent Projects menu? The Recent Projects menu is managed by Mac OS, so it's frequently unreliable after major updates.

Re: My file won't open properly

What version of Scrivener, please? Yes, just to another folder. Once you've done that, take a look at previous backups and see if they are okay. First thing to try is to reset the project display settings, as explained here: https://scrivener.tenderapp.com/help/kb/macos-troubleshooting/resetting-a-p...

Re: My file won't open properly

Version of Scrivener? Version of Mac OS? Is the file stored with a cloud service? If so, which one? If you open a brand new project, does it behave correctly? Scrivener's automatic backups can be found by going to Scrivener -> Preferences -> Backups and opening the backup folder in Finder. As a firs...
