Re: Cross platform compatibility

On the Mac the project.scriv is a "Package". You just double-click on it and it opens. Windows doesn’t have Packages, so your project presents as a folder in which you have to double click the project.scrivx.

Re: Word count including footnotes?

Hi Gabriel, Although the word count in the editor footer shows just the count for the text in the editor, you can get the word count including your inspector footnotes by checking Project>Project Statistics and setting the options there to include footnotes. As MM said above, or you can use inline ...

Re: Cannot Paste Text

Found the answer by accident. The editing area does not begin in the upper-left hand side at the top of the document but in the *middle* of the document. I don't know why this is so, but OK. I don't have the rulers showing--assuming that they exist--so that's why I didn't recognize this behavior. U...

Re: Is there a way to automatically turn hyperlinks into footnotes when compiling?

So this is a great solution when your book has only URL references you want to work appropriately for either ebooks or printed book. But what about when you have URL references and regular footnotes? Is there a way to get Scrivener to "Only Ignore URL footnotes" when compiling an eBook wh...

Re: New paragraph - default to a different font

Can I say, as a long-time Scrivener-user, that setting yourself up with a "Body" style potentially makes your life much more complicated when it comes to compiling. If you are using different section types, then you need to check that each section type will use your "Body" style ...

Re: Compiled to Word but Word won't recognise my chapter names as headings.

You need to Duplicate and Edit the compile format, choose "Styles"—Note, I'm a Mac user and can't access the equivalent in Windows, so you might need to explore—and then make sure you have the heading styles that you need. If you click the + sign, you'll see a list of the stles you already...

Re: Writing in columns that correspond in content

Maybe totally wrong, but wouldn't Mellel do this. I have not used it for quite a while, and never in the way described, but I got the impression that Mellel allowed for 'difficult' formatting, But Mellel's import abilities were always really really terrible. To be fair, I think Mellel is very much ...

Re: Writing in columns that correspond in content

Wouldn't that be margin notes of some kind? If the relation main text—notes exists (meaning: the "notes" contain significantly less text than the "main body") working with footnotes might work. One of the LaTeX templates Scrivener comes with has these at the outer sides and not ...

Re: Scrivener + Zotero + classic footnotes at the end of the page

Glad you've got yourself sorted. I was a bit confused by where you wanted your "This author of this source…" notes to be placed and linked. Can I just point out that you repeatedly say, "… the source in a square bracket…" and then give an example where you actually use braces, &q...

Re: Copy text into footnotes

Copy & paste from the editor into a footnote does work for me too. But when I copy text from the editor into the footnote as rich text the editor's left margin gets inserted too. Not so with plain text. Yes, it's always worked for me too. But @MRFERMENTATION, you need to make sure that your cur...

Re: Writing in columns that correspond in content

I know Scrivener can compile to columns, but not to "newspaper" columns—or whatever they might be called—where when the text in the left column reaches the bottom it continues at the top of the left column on the next page, not at the top of the right column. I think that is what the OP wa...

Re: Writing in columns that correspond in content

I think this has been asked before in the context of parallel translation, and the answer was not possible in Scrivener itself as it is a too complex a layout task. To do that, I would use a page-layout app such as Affinity Publisher (often available with a big discount making it quite affordable an...
