Re: <b43> Assigning character styles - bug

The problem seems to be this: Having applied a character style via the Styles Panel, the style selection seems to "stick around". I.e. when I select another set of words, the previously used style is still highlighted in the panel, and can't be used. When this happens, one must either clic...

<b43> Assigning character styles seems unreliable

I'm pasting plain text into documents and frequently I need to apply a character style ( Italic ) to certain words. I use the Styles panel for this work. 80% (-ish) of the times the style is applied correctly, but in 1 out of 5 cases something goes wrong: According to the style info panels, the styl...

<b43> Annoying Find dialog

The current implementation of the Find dialog has some annoying quirks:

1) You need to click inside the main text window before the buttons become enabled (I think this one has been reported previously)

2) The dialog stays on top of / in front of any other application's window.

Re: Scrivener 2.9.42: Removing Carriage Returns (CR's) [Windows 3 Beta #218

If it's a soft carriage return, i.e. not an end of paragraph, you can regex search for \x{2028}

I haven't found a way to search for the end of paragraph, a.k.a. pilcrow mark :cry:

Re: Formatting error when editing with ProWritingAid

For those who use ProWritingAid. I've communicated with them about this issue for months now, and as far as I can tell, they have finally resolved the issue where PWA inserts a soft line break instead of an end of paragraph marker when you hit Enter. In short, as of version 2.0.36 (released 16th of ...

Re: <b40> Unable to delete a comment properly

The downside to reporting problems on this forum is that it seems fairly arbitrary whether someone from L&L notices the post. If they do see it but can't reproduce the issue, it would be useful if they said so. In such cases, we could investigate further at our end and post updates. That said, I...

[LH3195] Unable to delete a comment properly

Yesterday, using beta 39, I selected a couple of paragraphs and added a comment. The text highlighter with a yellow background and blue underlining. The comment box was added correctly in the right-hand column. After updating to beta 40, I decided to delete the comment. At first glance, it worked an...

Re: Cannot search for single or double quotation marks

If these are 'smart quotes', try the following in RegEx mode:

Right single: \x{2019}
Left single: \x{2018}
Double left: \x{201c}
Double right: \x{201d}

Re: <b33> The new RegEx implementation broke important functionality?

Sorry Devin, I missed your reply in the past. I finally got around to doing some more testing. As it turns out, adhering to the Perl syntax works, e,g, whereas \x2028 used to work as a search for a soft line break. one now has to use \x{2028} UNFORTUNATELY, one issue remains, and I've flagged this b...

Re: <b35> Still struggling to export styles to docx in a meaningful way

For a user used to Word, or Writer, or InDesign, the most confusing thing about creating a style in Scrivener is that you are not supposed to start from some special menu. You are to fully format some paragraph, and then create new style based on this paragraph's formatting through menu: 'Format > ...

Re: <b35> Still struggling to export styles to docx in a meaningful way

Still baffled by this. Now I tried applying an editor style to my scene text. The end result was pretty much the same as what I described before, except now the exported style had been set as font family "Courier New". I never use Courier and I have no idea why the Scrivener compiler decid...

Re: <b35> Still struggling to export styles to docx in a meaningful way

I am sure there is detail instruction on the matter in the User's Guide. I'll do some further testing, as this is important to my workflow. I've tried looking for answers in the manual. Now, it's likely I've gotten dumber in my advancing years, but I haven't found a clear answer on how to do this y...

Re: <b35> Still struggling to export styles to docx in a meaningful way

Errr ... another question. The styles I used "MyBody" and "MyHeading" are defined within the compile format I used to 'export' to docx. As such, they don't show up in the Scrivener editor list of available styles. My idea was that I could use the editor without applying styles, i...

Re: <b35> Still struggling to export styles to docx in a meaningful way

I suspect this matter is all about 'Formatting' parameter in Scrivener's styles. Did you set 'Save all formatting' for a paragraph style, including font ant size? If not, you have got in Word exactly what you are expected to. )scrivener style options.png I didn't know this existed, so you probably ...

<b35> Compile format unexpectedly duplicated in format list

I have several custom compile formats under the My Formats section. Yesterday, after I'd made a minor change (can't recall what) to a format and clicked Save, it made a duplicate entry in the format list. These both seem to refer to the same format, because if I rename one of them, the other also ch...
