Re: Preventing Accidental Edits

Yeah, I recall some of that argument. Lock meta, labels etc. as well? Not really necessary (and more complicated for Keith & his developers). The document is not dead and buried. It's only sleeping. The Lock - Unlock is the bedside clock. Lock / Unlock on the Editor alone is enough to prevent th...

Re: Preventing Accidental Edits

Hey lunk, Doesn't really work for me. The documents are not part of a "completed Project". They are web pages, in context with parent and child web pages. I refer to them often (Read Only) and would deliberately open them up for periodic revision. That's why a more granular Lock / Unlock w...

Re: Preventing Accidental Edits

This topic appeared in 2012 and several times since. I just edited a document I should not have. I ignored the big blue Label next to the document in the binder that marks it as "Published". Sometimes there are so many words in my head, I'm trying not to forget that vital "cut" p...

Re: The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Hey, Jennifer. That's a great idea too. I've just created templates to improve speed and accuracy. Now I feel sorry for myself... working with Scrivener for seven years without these productivity techniques. I'm wondering what else I've been missing. This has been an exceptionally useful thread, tha...

Re: The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Bingo!

That check box now produces correct Total Words counts.

Thanks to both of you for sticking with this.

Re: The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Hello Silverdragon, I don't know why this isn't working for me. The Project setting is clear enough (done). The "Notes" documents are all unchecked for "Include in Compile". I even ran a compile of the test Folder. Tallying the 26 documents under the Folder (16 "Edit" a...

Re: The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Thanks, Katherine.

I was already using Words and Total Words in the Outline. I'll dispense with Total Words and take your suggestion: select the Folder in the Binder, open the "Edit" collection and find the total at the bottom of the Editor.

Re: The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Hi Katherine, Thanks! This works very well. I created three types of document in the Status field: Edit, Notes and the default "—" (None). A saved search collection of >Status >"Edit" + "Search Binder Selection Only" created a list of documents to open in the Editor. Pe...

Re: The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Hi kewms, I've been experimenting with this technique and it seems flexible and data rich. I've even changed the icon of the "notes" Files to differentiate them from their parent Files of the same name. The process then is to open the "notes" document in a QR Editor (not the Note...

The Holy Grail combination of Editor, QRs and Notes

Over about seven years using Scrivener, I’ve worked on three enormous Projects. The smallest had 27 Folders and about 200 Files. The largest (and still growing) has 180 Folders and about 1000 Files. It’s got more words than War and Peace. Managing that volume of material has led me through several s...

Re: Quick Reference productivity tweaks

Thanks for the replies. kewms… My bad. I didn’t describe No. 3 properly. Since my QR work is almost all in Notes, I was looking for the current line highlight in Notes. Silverdragon… I was able to make the QR notes black type on white, as long as the Inspector Notes had a light enough background to ...

Quick Reference productivity tweaks

I was gonna say the Quick Reference is the best thing thing sliced bread. But it's truly so wondrous it's the best thing since garlic naan. (Can't get any kind of naan where I'm waiting for the local COVID-19 lockdown to let up.) I use QRs to display Notes on a second screen when working on a docume...

Re: Float the Inspector

WORKAROUNDS More than a year later... I was still looking for a way to work on in the Editor and from Notes. I go back and forth constantly, referencing, cutting and pasting. Intense stuff, so the fly-outs in Full Screen were too clumsy. On my two screen (plus Mac) setup, I have two workarounds. 1) ...

Re: Prowritingaid Plug-in for Scrivener?

Thanks for the input. I don't have a problem working with the PWA app on desktop. It's a bit annoying to exit Scrivener, but that's required for version control. My issue is with how PWA analyzes documents. In my case, instructional content must be easy for less educated people (and ESL readers) to ...

Re: Back asswards composition

Hi Keith, I've have this working very well now and I'm super-pleased with the productivity boost. Imagine (Scrivener users who don't use this yet)... writing in clean Composition mode while having a customized panel of Binder / Outliner / Inspector on a second screen for easy reference. Bookmarks, N...
