Thanks - but that is not quite what I meant. I'll try to be clearer. I understand that when I merge documents I get one document with one title - that is what I want to do. However I don't want to completely lose the titles - I want the titles to be copied into my document, so I can use them as head...
Sometimes when working in the binder or outliner, before content has been added to any of the documents, it is necessary to split a longish document title in two (creating two new documents). Of course you can do this by cutting the unwanted words from the long title, creating a new document, and pa...
When we split documents, we have the option to 'split with selection as title'. I use this quite a lot. As my documents get long, I select its section headings, and 'split with selection as title' to create a series of documents, one for each section, each titled with the heading of the section (whi...
Sorry if this has an obvious answer but I have not been able to find it and it is frustrating me! I am working a lot in outliner just now and my outline is getting long and complex. Sometimes I get lost within it and just want to re-orient myself - I guess what I am looking for is something equivale...
Thanks Both! Very helpful as always. My sense is that the load-locate-go back workflow is a bit unwieldy for me (plus it seems to lose my 'lock in place' setting so requires yet another click). HOWEVER in playing around with your various suggestions I realised I can just click from scrivenings to ou...
Hi - I'm really finding it useful the way you can use an outline in the left pane and scrivenings in the right pane, linking them so that what you click on in the outline in the left pane shows up as the scrivenings in the right pane (Manual Section 12.2.5). My question has to do with the following ...
Hello again Just thought I would bump this question as it seems to have been missed, perhaps inadvertently. If not inadvertent (eg. if I have overlooked a previous answer!) could you direct me to same? Cheers Helen
Hi Wondering about possibilities for one day having an option to show synopses along with titles in scrivenings? (so along with View > Text Editing > Show titles in scrivenings, we could also have View > Text Editing > Show synopses in scrivenings). This would allow my most preferred writing style, ...
Thanks very much for both replies! Not my preferred outcome but at least it is good to know the reason. Can't understand why that explanation didn't come up in the two searches I did before posting! I was sure someone else would have asked the same question but could not find one. So thanks for poin...
Hello all I can see the value of automatic saving (and I see that we have a preference for changing the frequency). But there are times when I just want to look into a project without it automatically saving. Typical case would be when looking back at an old project - I want to read it but not updat...
Thanks! I think I am gradually getting my head round this. I also just discovered in the manual: PREFS > BEHAVIOURS > NAVIGATION > space key opens QR (from outliner). That, along with the ctrl-opt-cmd-i trick I think gives me just what I want. There's always a way - sometimes you just need a pointer!
Thanks Yes it is possible to save a layout - I was just wanting to have the layout I almost always want as my default, rather than having to go up and select it each time.
Thanks so much! Yes that is what I wanted. I thought I had tried using space bar to see the text and found it not to work - but indeed it does. And being able to see the synopsis with ctrl-opt-cmd-I is great. EVEN BETTER would be if it were possible to set a default so it always showed both the text...
Hello again - with another outliner question. I usually like to have just the title and synopsis showing in the outliner, with no columns. The default layout seems to be title, synopsis, label and status. I know how to remove the label and status columns, and I know how to save a layout. My question...
