Re: Looking for advice about using Scrivener for writing a scientific PhD thesis

Thanks, I'll check the Pandoc filters out, the Python figures one sounds very useful.

I'm very new to Pandoc, so I only know what I come across while searching for help!

Re: Pandoc/MMD/LaTeX/PDF options

Actually I do have an additional question about Styles - I'm familiar with HTML/CSS, and in the documentation I think it says that Scrivener styles can be converted to Word styles. What about PDFs? I've had a go at applying a style to some text, but it seems to be ignored during the conversion proce...

Re: Pandoc/MMD/LaTeX/PDF options

Thanks, yes, I think so. I'm compiling to Markdown, then using a post-processing script to use Pandoc to convert this directly to PDF.

I assume that if I want to output to LaTeX rather than a PDF in the future, that I can do so using Pandoc (i.e., MMD to LaTeX manually or in post-processing)?

thanks

Re: Looking for advice about using Scrivener for writing a scientific PhD thesis

Answering my own question here after a whole day of googling and experimenting: I've created my own Pandoc-style format. For figures, they are in a directory on the same level as my *.scriv, *.md files. I'm using the Pandoc and pandoc-fignos format to put them into the document, e.g.: ![Caption](fig...

Pandoc/MMD/LaTeX/PDF options

Hi, Yet again I find myself about to give up on Scrivener due to the complexity and number of options. If I am using Pandoc/MMD and want to create a PDF, what compile options should I use? There is no Pandoc -> PDF option. Should I: - Convert to plain text, and use Pandoc to convert to PDF? - Use MM...

Re: Looking for advice about using Scrivener for writing a scientific PhD thesis

Hi, Thanks for the advice - I checked out your workflow and a couple of others and have started to build my own, currently simpler, workflow to ensure that I can do everything I require before I commit to it. I'm using Zotero with Better BibTex plugin as my reference manager, and have installed the ...

Looking for advice about using Scrivener for writing a scientific PhD thesis

Hi everyone, I've used Scrivener compiling to MMD to LaTeX, then to PDF before, but abandoned it for pure LaTeX due to frustrations with Scrivener (mainly due to my own lack of knowlege and being too short of time to learn what I needed to know). My PhD thesis isn't due for another 2 years so I have...

Selecting LaTeX typesetting and bibliography engines

Hi, I've changed to using Texpad as my LaTeX editor and am very pleased with it, and use XeLaTeX and Biber for my documents. However, now when I try and compile a Scrivener document using MMD -> LaTeX and open the resulting .tex document in Texpad, it defaults to the built-in Texpad typesetter and b...

Re: Numbered list appearing without Markdown

List numbering is 'None', unless there's some other way to do it.

I've re-written the whole subsection, and trashed the old one. If anyone figures it out please let me know.

Thanks,
Emma

Numbered list appearing without Markdown

Hi, I have a subsection with plain text and a latex figure. There are no numbered lists, however when I compile to LaTeX, \begin{enumerate} appears with \item at the beginning of each paragraph, and also replacing the caption within the figure. I have absolutely no idea what's causing this, the rest...

Re: LaTeX article section types

Great, thank you, that's very clear. I'm still getting to grips with how processing is variously handled by Scrivener and MMD.

Thanks again,
Emma

Re: Inline LaTeX with MMD 6

Hi, I don't use the command line - I compile in Scrivener for MMD to LaTeX. Copying and pasting what you have done using the backtick into my document gives: Here is a test \textbackslash{}delta to see if escaping \delta works The dollar signs now work, although I've just updated my LaTeX distributi...

LaTeX article section types

Hi, Me again. I'm creating a LaTeX document with document class article. I have my main folders under Draft set as section type 'Section', and sub-documents under these set as section-type 'Structure-Based'. When compiled to LaTeX, the main folders are converted to \part{}, and the sub-documents to ...

Re: Inline LaTeX with MMD 6

Thanks for the suggestions. I can confirm that: ⋅  $ and $$ do not work in MMD6 (for me, anyway) ⋅  Using a single backtick does not work inline (I still get the \texttt issue) ⋅  Using \\( and \\) does work to give inline math using MMD6 to LaTeX. Thanks again, Emma
