Re: Timeline software

I use and like Bee Docs Timeline 3D. Both flexible and powerful.

Re: New potential user question

I find that moving documents from Word into Scrivener is a relatively pain-free process. Just drag in each of the individual chapters, then use the text-splitting functionality in Scrivener to break up each of the pieces as you like. If you have endnotes or footnotes, you'll need to save the Word fi...

Either would be great, but option 2 would be sufficient for my purposes.

Assign a keyboard combo

I find using the Scrivener Service for text clipping quite handy if you've assigned a keyboard command to it. I don't remember the default arrangement for Scrivener, but I've used the freeware Service Scrubber application to assign a keystroke combination to the Scrivener "Create New Clipping f...

After creating the clip, I go to the Inspector for the clip, click on the Document References tab at the bottom. I then click the "+" sign at the top to add a reference, getting the pulldown menu and choosing "Create External Reference." Nothing happens. This also seems true for ...

Can't create external reference to web clipping

I installed Leopard yesterday, and using 1.095 I can no longer add an external reference to browser items I have clipped using the "Create new clipping from selection" service. This is also true of web pages drag into Scrivener from Safari.

I'm using a Core Duo MacBook.

I get around this issue entirely by using a combination of Quicksilver and a freeware app called Plain Clip. http://www.bluem.net/downloads/plain-clip_en/ When I copy of piece of text, I hit a Quicksilver command that uses Plain Clip to wipe the copied text of all formatting. Then I just paste into ...

If you go to Quicksilver Preferences, and check your catalog listing for the Scrivener items you're searching (by clicking on the "I" in the lower right-hand corner), you may find that you've clicked the "omit source item" button. Since Scrivener files are really packages, this w...

To select text in a multi-column PDF, hold down "option." then select. It works the same in Skim as in Preview.

I've had a MacBook for 9 months, after using a 15' PowerBook for three years. I can't say I've missed the extra screen real estate, and the MacBook is blindingly fast, even though mine's the original CoreDuo. You can't go wrong. I plan to hand my MacBook off soon to one of my college-student sons, b...

You can set Tofu to remember your position in the text. Check the preferences. It works fine for me. I have my text preferences set at 18 pt. Baskerville with column width at 630 pixels with 30 pixels for left and right margins, and it gives me a very nice two-page display that looks very much like ...

re: Quicksilver

You don't need a Quicksilver plug-in to do this. You simply have to install the Services Menu Module. Once you have it installed, invoke Quicksilver, type your text, hit Tab, and then choose one of the Scrivener Services: Append Selection to Current Text Document or Create New Clipping from Selectio...
