Re: Computer: "the enemy of careful writing"

Why am I dredging up this one? An article and a conference on how a lack of handwriting does reduce reading comprehension scores even with keyboarding. General article: http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2012/01/25/18handwriting_ep.h31.html?tkn=TSCCONY7f8plNvHxIAjSVBjW8JDczcsw8GzJ&cmp=clp-sb-ascd...

Re: Bit quiet this year...

Yes. Sorry. I am usually out beating the bushes, drumming up customers/wrimos. (I will be buying two more licenses for Xmas presents this year.) I have moved up the food chain over in NaNoland and have been beta-testing like a fiend. I have not been over here in Scrivenerland for MONTHS. I miss you ...

You will be interested in this: http://blog.lettersandlight.org/post/4930557210/going-to-camp-in-my-mind I have seen the beta website and we are hoping to get it up and online in August. The issue is money. So we are having a special fundraiser to help pay for the server infrastructure in May. From ...

Re: Short stories

I keep a separate .scriv file for each short. In my research folder, I keep the synopsis/inquiry letters/submission track, etc. As the compile file is housed externally, I can call up a very specific compile that includes the idiosyncrasies of a particular submission target. (Some want italics under...

Re: How about replacing the forum?

I LOVE YOU KEITH! OK... you already knew that. I HATE knowledge-base-driven forums. I like THIS forum just the way it is. Thank you for defending it!

Apollo16

P.S. If you want knowledge driven, just do a search on the manual. That's what it's for and Ioa did a great job on this one.

Re: "TheBoard" - feedback wanted on simple brainstorming app

This might be more than you want to do, but have you considered shapes? (Simple one, like ovals, triangles, squares and rectangles.) The reason I ask is that I use color and shapes in my mindmaps/concept maps. I use shapes for hierarchy and colors for other metadata. Attached is a bogus mind map I u...

Re: Suggestions for Meta Data labels

My "label" is either "POV" or "Focus." "Focus" means what I want to be especially careful of when I do the next edit. If I have "setting" then that means I should pay close attention that I use all the senses, etc. If I have tension or conflict, then...

Do you have a file open and in an editor? (Not just in the binder.)

Re: Scrivener 2.0.4 Now Available

You can also use widgets. (Yes... I know...) Hit F4 and have the dictionary as one (or the only one) of your widgets. When you toggle F4 again, you are immediately back to your Scrivener page with no fuss or muss. I find this faster than any other combo and it is one button.

Re: What Does Your Workspace Look Like?

Also have to confess that I put my desk in the corner where it is on purpose so I would get to look out of the window, the nice part about the area where we live is that there are some nice sunrises and sunsets, so it's pretty nice to see when you're day-dreaming ;) Great pictures! (My "office...

I was thinking to share my workspace... but then again, I think everyone knows what a Starbucks looks like.

Don't care. Want pictures anyway! Your iPhone still takes photos doesn't it? :D

Re: Writer's groups

Apollo16, what do you think about online critique circle? Do you find the anonymity a plus or a minus? I started this online group with several friends from a previous in person group. I moved across country and my group didn't want to lose me as a member. So... although the make-up of the group ha...

Re: Writer's groups

I am in a couple critique circles (one in person and one online) and I am a board member of SouthWest Writers. They are very helpful to me but you have to shop around. I left one because it was all chat and I left another because no one was really doing anything beyond fan fic. Yuck. Good for teens ...
