Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

Ok, just to wrap up where I ended up now that I've done some more research and experimentation... Rather than rely on the compile formatting capabilities to "markup" my RTF output, I'm going to apply fine sizes and colors to my document text directly. In fact, I created a set of Document T...

Re: Just a suggestion on figures, tables and raw code

Yes, thanks. That makes sense and is what I've done. I created a document template that uses the style/color that will be the "tag" in NWP - one for my "tips" and one for photos with captions. I haven't tested the output yet but I don't expect problems. It would still be more int...

Re: Just a suggestion on figures, tables and raw code

The one thing that I would like to do is related to this but there could be multiple ways to implement it. Having additional document types is one way. The feature is the ability to have "new document types" so they can have unique formatting associated with them during compile. Currently ...

Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

So there are several different philosophies on converting to NWP. Each has it's merits and they are not exclusive. But if anyone has experience - good or bad - with any of them I'd like to hear about it! 1) the OP's philosophy is to style the text in Scrivener and then use a macro in NWP to apply a ...

Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

Ok, I think I figured out how it all works. The code: # set the various heading styles If Find All @Text<[ ^\n\f ]+>, 'Eau' Menu “:Format:Paragraph Style:Heading 1” End The part that's underlined actually is in the style and font that you are searching for with the @Text. So, in the macro that under...

Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

Still confused about the finder! Command-T in MacOS Sierra 10.12.3 brings up "New Tab". What version of OS X are you running and what does Command T do in it? I don't see a Finder Font dialog command anywhere.

Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

More progress. Now I'm tweaking the macro and my styles in Nisus Writer Pro. You have this comment: "You will need modify it to use your export parameters, changing all the [^\n\f ]+ regex code appropriately using the Finder font dialog." I see the lines of code but I don't know what you m...

Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

Ok, starting to get the hang of the levels and how to create additional levels like a level 2 folder. Now the last piece I think is how to structure the compile settings together the RTF output I need. Do you uncheck the "override text and notes formatting" and rely on the formatting you p...

Re: Scrivener to Nisus Writer Pro

This is very cool and I'm working on figuring out how to use the compiler to pull this off for my book. Still trying to wrap my head around it. The part that is confusing is the upper panel in the Compile settings "type" fields for the levels. I'm having a bit of conceptual difficulty mapp...

Re: Different formatting for different documents

Thanks, yeah cray jumps. Martin was answering my post. His suggestion is working well so it is probably the path of least pain. I'm looking forward to see what Affinity does with their upcoming Publisher app. Their other apps are simply stunning.

Re: Different formatting for different documents

Thanks Mark. I am still on the fence about which direction to go for the final layout. The primary options are Nisus Writer Pro and Scribus. Like all things, there are tradeoffs. I like Scribus as it is a really desktop publish app. But only the 1.5x releases have footnote support and these releases...

Re: Different formatting for different documents

Thanks gr. I'm basically looking for best practices. I completely missed the <$sectiontitle> tag in the docs! On the glossary items, no I do not want to carry the color/highlight into the final book. It is purely a placeholder for me while I write. The highlighter makes sense for that. I had intende...

Re: Different formatting for different documents

Ok, this has been valuable. I spent time with the video tutorials and user guide working through the Compile process. Quite elegant and can do a lot for me. At the end of the day I still need to get my book into a page layout application to do the things I need to do with images in particular (and a...

Re: Different formatting for different documents

Thanks folks. I'm "in between" simple textual writing and wysiwyg editing. I don't need a lot of wysiwyg support but things like position of headers are powerful visual cues and help set context for me. Maybe I'm odd that way! My book will be a reasonably high production quality book and I...

Re: Different formatting for different documents

Understood but I'm moving my Scrivener text to page layout for my book. I can't simply select the Scrivener text header unless it is in the text itself. I tried exporting Scrivener to various formats and importing that into page layout (I'm currently exploring the open source Scribus now) but that c...
