Re: Snow Leopard annoyances

Is anyone having issues with the "Grid" view on their macBooks? I have a macBook (mid-2007) and for larger folders, the stack (when in "Grid" view) goes underneath the menu bar... video of problem

Re: Ulysses reborn

Keith, Several details show that they actually had a close look at Scrivener. There is more than a close resemblance (project and document notes, color preferences, project-wide search, document info pane...). I guess they had their reward back for what Scrivener took from the original Ulysses. Pao...

Re: Pagehand - new word processor for OS X

It looks really nice. I like most of it so far. The only issues I have are mostly personal so far (like I like my formatting options to be on the right, and the default toolbar could use some work in ordering and presentation). It seems to have a lot of general features done so far, but it's lacking...

Re: Mellel vs Nisus question

I prefer Nisus. I've been told Mellel is more powerful, but Nisus has been able to do what I need it to, and it's user interface is a lot more intuitive (in my opinion). Both of them have academic pricing available (if you qualify). I'm more of an ease of use type of person, and Nisus has many items...

Re: What software should I get besides Scrivener?

For image editing, Acorn or Pixelmator . For Office, I'd use NeoOffice or Nisus Writer (just WordProcessing) or even Lotus Symphony depending on the type of interface you like. There's also Bean if you want small, light, and fast. For uninstalling apps, I suggest AppCleaner , but be sure to check th...

Re: [emoPoetry] It & I killed myself again...

Hey, emoKid! I just want to add that I think the spirit in which you ask for, and accept, advice, is wonderful. A quick question: do you write your poems by hand, or online? If online, try writing them by hand, and try, once you've got a draft written, looking hard at it and crossing out words, and...

Re: [emoPoetry] It & I killed myself again...

Thanks for the advice. I've only read John Updike's "Dog's Death" (before of his own work) and noticed the careful choice of words and the overall impact. I'm hoping to read a lot more poetry this summer so I can learn from being exposed to it. I've already ordered some books and borrowed ...

Re: [emoPoetry] It & I killed myself again...

Thank you for the link and the insight. I've never experienced anorexia myself, so it is mostly from the assumptions or from what I've heard. I knew that the mirror part would be wrong (wasn't too sure about cravings), but I thought that if I didn't include it, then the poem might be a bit too vague...

Re: [emoPoetry] It & I killed myself again...

I'm going to give it to you straight: this isn't writing, it's typing. No, it's therapy, mostly, and if it does you some good, fine. But it's never going to reach many readers, unless they share your preoccupation with anorexia and depression. Those are serious problems, and I hope you're getting m...

[emoPoetry] It & I killed myself again...

 I'm trying to be a poet, but I've been told I'm good but have a lot to work on still. I can't really find any interesting places online to get critiques... I thought critique meant "criticism: a serious examination and judgment of something," but the places I went to had rules that ...

Re: The Cork Board Issue: A Proposal To End The Nonsense

And "Corkography" sounds ok, but the editor in me wants you to write it again, half as long: Cork? But I was thinking something like "A corkboard never looked so good," or "The first digital corkboard to turn you on"... Anyways, I'm not too sure on the name. The ...

Re: Don't Allow Writing or Open In Tutorial

All I'm saying is I can't find anywhere (at least anywhere semi-obvious) that let's me know I'm setting up all my files in the Tutorial, and secondly, I can't find anywhere that tells me if I do that, that I'm at risk of losing everything. As you go through the Tutorial (as I did when I first bough...

Re: The Cork Board Issue: A Proposal To End The Nonsense

If I do make, it would be free because I'm still learning and whatnot (and also, I can't guarantee anything useful). So here's what I was thinking. So for most of my corkboarding experiences, I have notes and pictures. I also have color codes thumb-tacks (push-pins). I also have a folder if the note...

Re: The Cork Board Issue: A Proposal To End The Nonsense

Have you thought of trying something like freemind?

I might be able to whip something up in the summer, but I can't guarantee anything... But let me ask, Stand-alone App, or online service?
Should this post be moved to "Other Software"?
