Re: Chrome OS

I just want to throw my hat in here as someone else that would love to be able to work on my Scrivener projects on my Chromebook. I have a pretty high-end one and love it, and have migrated almost all of my work away from my Windows laptop (former iOS user as well) and love not having to worry about...

Re: [BB] Compile to Word turns em dashes into double hyphens

Sorry, I finished my novel and haven't started the next one yet. Yes, this was an old post!

Ellipsis bug in compile

When I compile to Word .docx my ellipsis characters are changed from normal ones (unicode 2026) to the kind used in mathematics (unicode 22EF) which are raised to mid-height.

Re: Weird Compile to MS Word Quote Marks Issue

This also happened when going through the tutorial. It was with the newest version of Word 'docx'. When I went to a different one 'doc' there was no separation. I got it with the regular .doc (old) version of Word too when I compiled to that. Ok, good to know it's a known issue. I'll use workaround...

[LH3035] Weird Compile to MS Word Quote Marks Issue

I'm trying to get an export to MS Word to get to my editor. It seems that no matter what style I choose, the single and double quote marks in the doc are very wide - it looks like there's an extra space sometimes before and sometimes after them. But it's not a space, the quote characters themselves ...

[BB] Compile to Word turns em dashes into double hyphens

I can't find the setting that's causing this. In my Scrivener 3 beta for Windows document, I have em dashes. But when I compile it to MS Word Novel format, they all get changed to double hyphens. That's the opposite of what you normally want to happen. I'm on the latest beta that will expire at the ...

Re: Compile yields only front matter

I fixed it by moving Book II over to the right one level. It wasn't truly under the Manuscript folder, which I seem to have renamed Vigilante Angels Series. All good now, thanks!

Re: Compile yields only front matter

Thanks for the help. The contents pane is empty now after I select "Vigilante Angels Series" in the drop down. Here's a picture of my hierarchy and compile page (attached).

Re: Compile yields only front matter

Another symptom of this problem is that when I go to project targets, it says zero out of 50,000 words, even though I see over 28,000 words at the bottom of the screen when I click on the manuscript folder.

Compile yields only front matter

I'm on 1.9.7.0 for Windows, and used Scrivener for the first book in my series. I've been writing the second book, and am following the advice in some of the posts I've read about doing all three books in the series in one scrivener project. So I moved book one to the research folder, and now have b...

Preventing Accidental Edits

I've completed my first novel in Scrivener and now I've moved the content to a Microsoft Word template. However, I'm still always in Scrivener going through the research folder, preparing to do the second book in the series, etc. I'm always terrified I'll accidentally edit something here and hence '...

Making the Synopsis card larger

In Scrivener for Windows, in the Inspector area on the right of my screen, I'd like to make the Synopsis card larger vertically. I know I can stretch the whole pane horizontally, but don't want to rob screen real estate from my main editing area. I don't usually use the Project/Document Notes area, ...

Re: Grammar and style notation

There are other benefits to these tools, such as catching the unintentional use of passive voice, or not realizing how much it has been employed. I do agree with the concerns about bloating Scrivener, or driving up the cost. Integration with other tools, rather than incorporation of them, can solve ...

Did anyone say that you were required to make every change it recommends? :-) It's a tool. It's worth using to catch things you may have missed.

Re: Grammar and style notation

"I don’t think it’s Scrivener’s job to help users write well - that’s something the writer should bring to Scrivener." I disagree - Scrivener is a writer's tool, just like the Hemingway App. I would absolutely love it if there were some kind of feature like this, or better yet integration ...
