Re: lock binder order to prevent accidental reordering

+1 for this - there comes a point in the process when things are where they belong & it would great to know they’ll stay there no matter my errant clicks and drags

Re: tracking individual participants with tagging, keywords, or meta data?

Awesome that you've been using MaxQDA. I’d suggest as much as possible that you use the same coding/keyword system that you used there. For what you describe it may actually be easier to compile from Scrivener and bring the compiled text back in to Max to run a lexical search and/or auto code.

This is scrivener's single greatest strength, in my experience.

Re: tracking individual participants with tagging, keywords, or meta data?

I’d take a look at this recent discussion - viewtopic.php?t=50366 - and search the forums for QDA. In a nutshell, Scrivener is not built to be a QDA program, and you’d probably be better off with one, especially if you can get it at student pricing.

Re: Workaround Suggestions for Lack of Keywords in iOS

Thanks @anorgo for this - this is a great batch of constructive suggestions & I agree, all would help to address this significant omission in Scrivener for iOS.

Re: Use of keywords to help integrate interviews into copy within Scrivener

Dang this stuff has gotten really expensive. I think they figure everyone is either writing the cost into research grant proposals or analyzing focus groups for a fortune 500 client..... I've always been paying educational prices and using institutional money which had shielded me from the highest t...

Re: Use of keywords to help integrate interviews into copy within Scrivener

If you can afford it ($500+), I’d strongly recommend getting NVivo, MaxQDA, AtlasTi, or other QDA software that is designed for exactly this kind of task. You will want paragraph-level coding, reports by code, etc. etc. and all of the crazy hoop jumping that’s required to do a fraction of the tasks ...

Re: Are offsite backup services safe?

Backblaze lets you set a private key. If you lose it you are SOL but/because they can’t read your files.

But it won’t backup straight from your iPad..

Unfortunately with one of my big projects using <$pageGroupTitle> crashes Scrivener. Due to some illegal characters in my title no doubt. Filed a bug report and waiting to hear back...

Re: API to enable plugins like Zotero

Could also write with a typewriter, because writing too much a day is not good either. Not to be ornery, but following the DFW method of retyping my entire manuscript (even though I could have just copied and pasted) in the process of turning my PhD into publications was actually incredibly valuabl...

Re: API to enable plugins like Zotero

To second what Kinsey said, there are plenty of ways to work around the lack of native citation support in Scrivener. Remember it's the ideas that will get you published, not the citations. You can always sort that out later.

Re: Dec Mac update hangs

on a brand new computer that sounds like a bad memory chip. there’s nothing in Scrivener or any other program on MacOS that should cause a system-wide hang that bad.

Re: Any plans to move to iCloud sync?

Maybe this issue could be addressed in a pinned FAQ - it seems like every week or two there’s a forum post from someone who hasn’t done their homework complaining that they can’t use iCloud/Google Drive/Box.net/One Drive/private WebDAV server/sftp etc. etc.
