Scrivener fails to convert some text files to rtf on import

On my Windows10 box, I wanted to import a text file prepared on a linux box. I slid it into the Research folder on the binder and the import dialog told me about the rtf conversion. The file name then appeared in the binder. Unfortunately, the file was empty - all the text had disappeared. I solved ...

Re: number insertion in file after importation

I'm afraid I can't reproduce your problem. I've tried importing a rtf file into Final Scriv for Linux 1.9.01 Beta and also into the latest Windows version 1.9.7.0 running in Linux under Wine. In each case the rtf file was imported cleanly with no visible problems.

Re: inserting website links into a document

Well, it's been some months and no-one's come up with a suggestion for this problem. But I do have some news. This week I bought the latest Windows version of scrivener 1.9.7.0 and installed it on mu UbuntuStudio 16.04 LTS box using Wine wine-2.0-rc6 (Staging). The problem about web links does not e...

Re: File Compatibility: Final Linux with Windows 1.9.7.0?

I've just installed the latest Windows download version 1.9.7.0 on my linux box under Wine [I selected Wine version wine-2.0-rc6 (Staging)]. Up to present, I have managed to open my projects created using the last Linux free beta. All seems to function smoothly and I have not yet found something whi...

Re: no available dictionary in the select window

Dictionaries in Scrivener for linux have caused lots of head scratching, I'm afraid. The post I made before [viewtopic.php?f=33&t=33533] got the french dictionary working for me under the conditions I described. Since then I have made a fresh install of a later version of UbuntuStudio 16.04.1, a...

inserting website links into a document

I've been trying to produce a well-formed hyperlink in a document without success. The destination url I want to be reachable by clicking on a bit of text is of the form : extensions.website.org Using Edit > link I can put this text into the dialogue box and select the radio button for 'Web' which a...

Re: Scrivener won't install on Ubuntu 16.04

I had been waiting for the point release 16.04.1 before making a fresh install of UbuntuStudio. I remembered having seen this thread some time ago.

The answer quoted above completely fixed the startup problem and saved a lot of time.

Re: Online platform?

You have picked the linux forum and for Scrivener, the linux branch is officially a dead branch. It has been resuscitated from time to time but the last issue was definitively said to be the 'last'. Under your name it says you're windows platform so you might be better raising this issue of cloud co...

Re: Why Windows?

..... I am stranded with Windows/Linux/mobile Android. As I said, always the poor cousin, looking over the back fence at my neighbors swimming pool... We're even denied auto- exporting to dropbox to keep an editable version handy for use on my phone. It's easy to get auto-export to dropbox. Just pl...

Re: Scrivener on Linux via Crossover Office 15, working great!

The difficulty I see with Codeweavers is mainly philosophical. It is SAAS, Software as a Service. In other words, the most you can do is buy a year's rental. You never own it and it becomes an on-going cost. I know everything else is trending in that direction and I do understand why software compan...

Re: Can't import or export documents from the 64-bit .deb

On UbuntuStudio 14.04 LTS with scriv 1.9.0.1 beta 64 bit : the only import I can do is from rtf or txt files but they do seem to work fine. Only hiccup is that the import from rtf ends up in some strange but usable font "BPG Excelsior Condencerd GPL&GNU" which is easily put back to wha...

Re: Which version of Scrivener to use . . .

Before installing on linux, I would check the postings in this forum which talk about various 'bugs' or difficulties involved in using the latest (and final) beta versions for linux. You will have to chose between 32bit and 64bit versions and then between 1.9.0.1 and 1.7.2.4. I think you will find t...

Re: Crowd funding for Linux releases?

One essential prior to starting any effort towards crowd-funding a linux release would be to seek input from the organisation which owns the scrivener product. Do they have the willingness to undertake the effort ? What additional resources would the parallel development of a linux version require ?...

Re: ? instead of dots in lists

The problem with exporting a scriv file which contains a bullet list as an open document format (odt) file whereby the list disappears completely in the odt output file has been confirmed by 'Piet' on the libreoffice users list as due to a malformed export. The bullet list items are correctly formed...

Re: ? instead of dots in lists

I've had the opportunity to test all the export formats on my old laptop with 32 bit version of Scrivener 1.9.0.1 using a text file with several paragraphs and including a bullet list and a numbered list. The only export version which fails is the open document format .odt and when opened in LO Writ...
