Re: iCloud Sync

kewms wrote:You're describing the iCloud "Optimize storage" feature, which is indeed an enormous problem for Mac-to-Mac sharing. But it's not really relevant to the Mac-to-iOS synchronization issues.

Bummer but thanks for the clarification.

Re: iCloud Sync

As I said, it’s a tough one to wrestle with. Agreed. BTW, I read today on Twitter that the new Files app in iOS 13 lets you pin files AND folders, which will stay offline available on your device, and download changes immediately when they happen (from any other device), now, which wasn't possible ...

Re: iCloud Sync

It's a difficult issue with no simple solution Well, the ”simple” solution is to adapt to the way the software works, instead of requesting or hoping for the software to change. That’s the way I handle all software I get your point. I do want to add: The problem is: it worked. I had Scrivener 2, bi...

Re: iCloud Sync

Since the original reports of slow syncing with Scrivener 3 and Dropbox, they do appear to have improved their API. Are you still seeing the same performance issues as before? There's also some evidence that the non-linear growth in sync times with project size has to do with the iPad's handling of...

Re: iCloud Sync

My problems with the Dropbox sync started with the moment that Scrivener 3 came out, and my sync time went from 20 seconds to (in the case of my older iPad Air - where it also used to be 20 seconds!) 15 minutes. Yes, I have a couple of large multiple GB projects. Before you say it will choke up the ...

Re: What does iOS 13 mean for Scrivener iOS and iCloud Sync?

I do NOT want us all to wake up one day and find out we've pushed KB into retiring from software development. I've seen it happen in other places. I don't want to see it here. So to you it might be harmless discussion, what's my problem, why can't I just skip over it? But to me, it's a low-level bu...

Re: What does iOS 13 mean for Scrivener iOS and iCloud Sync?

A thread that started as: "Hey, Apple announced all these new features on a platform on which a young version of Scrivener runs, what could that mean for the future features of that software?" The responses, I quote... Good discussions need to be rooted in facts, not speculation. There are...

Re: What does iOS 13 mean for Scrivener iOS and iCloud Sync?

Jeez, seeing the reactions, it seems this place has become a hostile place for discussion... That's not a nice way of discussing things.

Re: What does iOS 13 mean for Scrivener iOS and iCloud Sync?

this conversation should *not* be held in the technical support forum. There is a place for this kind of idle discussion outside of the forums where the support staff are trying to get their jobs done -- I believe that the Latte / Software & Development forum would be ideal, no? Maybe Software ...

Re: What does iOS 13 mean for Scrivener iOS and iCloud Sync?

Not sure if the new PencilKit add-on that Apple makes available to developers would mean apple pencil functionality could be integated into Scrivener more easily? https://9to5mac.com/2019/06/06/pencilkit-apple-wwdc/ [/quote] I do remember that I once asked if Scrivener iOS could have highlighting in...

Re: What does iOS 13 mean for Scrivener iOS and iCloud Sync?

I think it's wonderful how people watch these announcements and immediately post, "Does this mean we're going to get iCloud Sync?" or whatever, without stoping to think that Keith will need to look into it at length in order to determine what he can do once the betas have been released to...

Re: Dropbox free version limits device numbers

Here's a broad overview (details in the thread) Thanks for the details. The problem is that my projects are often gigabytes big, even though I only work with kilobytes to megabytes of material (the rest is research and inspiration). I think the method would take far too long (in my case, of course)...

Re: Dropbox free version limits device numbers

From what I remember, Keith said when betas of iOS 11 came out with the first Files App, it was possible to use the Files App as a local container to send to Scrivener iOS. But something between the early betas and the final release changed. I don't remember exactly how he described it, it was here ...

Re: Dropbox free version limits device numbers

Let's hope iOS 13 which Apple will announce at WWDC 2019 brings changes to both iOS, Apple's built Files app, iCloud Drive, that makes iCloud Syncing possible for Scrivener. I'm thinking of my next purchase to be an tricked out iPad Pro, but the whole Dropbox syncing together with the new 3 device l...

Re: iCloud Sync

Let's hope that there is interesting stuff in the announcement of iOS 13 at WWDC 2019 (the Keynote is the 3rd of June) that makes iCloud Drive a possibility for Scrivener iOS Syncing. I know Keith wants it to happen, but he doesn't want to compromise on Scrivener's special package format (and I don'...
