Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Thanks Amber, for the detailed response. I still hope we can at least find the cause. Even IF there is no solution, it would be nice if we would at least know where the problem is. Maybe a solution would be easier then, but even if not, now I think most of us are guessing. (and of course, your guess...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Scrivener 2 didn't behave like this. Correct. iOS Scrivener didn't exist when Scrivener 2 was written. Scrivener 3 is designed with iOS Scrivener and syncing very much in focus. If there was a quick fix I bet L&L would have applied it by now. I suspect that the long syncing times for some are c...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Hi Lunk, thanks for the elaborate post. I don't agree though, and you have avoided my main counter-argument. Your argument is: iOS isn't made for this. It's stripped down. You want too much from it. Fair enough. My counter-argument: it worked FINE with Scrivener 2.8 and Scrivener iOS. We upgrade pro...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Dear Amber, When I tried your methode (copy-pasting in Terminal, right? Mine is in Documents, and the Scrivener folder is in the root folder of my Dropbox, so I had to make some small changes in the path.) I got a figure of 20581. I have big projects (the biggest ones totaling 7GB). In total 11 proj...

Re: What am I missing in iOS? Inserting Research and Printing

There are 2 ways. One is a bit quicker but the name of the file in Safari will be a random name instead of a correct name of the article. The other one is a bit slower, but it will have the correct name when you bring it into Scrivener. First make sure you opened Scrivener iOS and you are in the fol...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Amber, thanks for the explanation. But I do think still something is up. I have been told before that the Scrivener 3 format doubles the amount of files that need to be checked. But the time difference in the 'downloading file list' between Scrivener 2 and 3, if you look at the test users did, was, ...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Just to add some additional feedback to the conversation: I also tried the whole deleting some recent.conflict files in the Scrivener packages but it didn't help. I also have the feeling that the syncing, next to the fact that it used to take some seconds on whichever hardware, now it takes about 3 ...

Why is Scrivener iOS 'smarter' about changes than Scrivener macOS?

Let me explain. This was both the case with Scrivener 2 and with Scrivener 3. If I open a project on Scrivener iOS (Dropbox), and I don't change anything... The system doesn't report changes. If I just open a couple of pd's and text files, and even if I open a text file, put the text cursor somewher...

Highlighting text in a PDF on Scrivener iOS

If I'm not mistaken this is not possible. On the desktop version of Scrivener you can highlight text in a PDF and normal text documents, but on the iOS version you can only do it in text documents. I don't know how difficult this is, considering that a lot of pdf-apps have highlighting features, but...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

I did, and it didn't solve it for me. I've had your problem, the time-out crash, but only very very few times (and retrying helped) and if I had bad internet. So that hasn't been a big issue for me. Maybe these 2 issues have the same core problem going on, or maybe they are unrelated. Difficult to t...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Let's not forget that user 'mijalce' on this forum did an elaborate test in http://www.literatureandlatte.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=255195#p255195 in which, if I read it correctly, he synced a 32MB project in Scrivener 3 and Scrivener 2.8 format. The same project, updated to Scrivener 3. One took 12...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Listening does no good if there is no hard data to actually guide the investigation. There are so many moving parts and variables, you have to have data that helps you eliminate potential sources of problems. L&L can care all they want, but without the support cases they mentioned, there's noth...

Re: Syncing Scrivener on iOS takes a long time

Hi Katherine,

thanks for the reply. I answered in the other thread in more detail, but in short: knowing that the team is taking a look at this, is enough information for me. Just to know that the complaints are being listened to.

Thanks,
