Re: Dialogue Tags

I'm in no way contradicting @brookter; but I have a different view. Note the semicolon between my clauses :-) I'd edit this as: "I’m on my way now," Lizzie said. "But make sure the door is locked and have your Beretta in hand ready to go." The two clauses in: "I’m on my way ...

Split window Lock in Place document overwritten by Quick Search result

1. Open a document in editor 2. Lock in place (opt+cmd+L) 3. Split editor window vertically (cmd+") 4. Quick search something (ctrl+opt+G) 5. Select a result 6. Result document opens in locked window and Lock in Place is deactivated. Expected result: Result document opens in second window and L...

I export to OPML from Scapple and import into MindNode.

British: 'Go home ', he said, 'to your father.' (The original didn't have one, so the comma goes outside...) I've never seen this construction. Can you cite an a example? Not challenging you, but out of curiosity. That example I gave is actually from the Oxford Guide to Style itself. So it is. Well...

Re: Dialogue Tags

Loads of great advice here. I'm pretty closely aligned with @brookter. I'll add a couple of things to the mix: Read your dialogue aloud. Doing so makes it clear what is and isn't needed. If you're new to this, then perhaps have someone else read it to you. As a writer, you have to develop writing an...

I saw this today: https://societyofauthors.org/Prizes/Soc ... rial-Prize and thought of Rog for some reason.

Imagine if they added the constraint: ... and under 80; that would pile on the pressure.

Re: Does Scrivener3 support iCloud?

Maximising Mac Storage was what I meant was a shortcut to disaster on iCloud, but even with that turned off I don’t use it between my laptops because I can’t check at a glance whether the changes to the project(s) have finished uploading/downloading before I shut down or open the project when I cha...

Re: Does Scrivener3 support iCloud?

For macOS-only use – perhaps with multiple machines – you can use iCloud Drive. I do this every day without any issues.

For use with the iOS version of Scrivener, I believe Dropbox is still the only option.

Re: Highlight color in search

I guess I never would have figured that out, since the term 'textual marks' is so illogically nebulous. Gun to my head, I still couldn't define that term. Hard to search a 979-page user manual if you don't know what term to search for. Searching for logical terms like 'highlight' and 'search' revea...

"some planing": I do find carpentry therapeutic as a displacement activity :D I can't imagine planning a first draft. However, knowing the ending asap, is a must for me; and a few waypoints helps a lot too. It all changes in the second draft anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No idea about writing groups, I...

Re: Size of document >> no images, plenty of words >> normal?

I'm not suggesting anything untoward – I realise there is plenty going on under the hood – I'm merely wanting to confirm if that sounds more or less correct? Basically, I want know if I shouldn't be trouble-shooting now already, rather than working further in the new 'combined' project, only for th...

Re: Dashes and hyphens

I avoid using en-dashes and en-dashes in the editor for this reason – my writing font makes the differences hard to see. Instead, I turn off "Smart dashes and ellipses", put the ellipsis auto-convert in the Mac keyboard settings, and put replacements in my Compile options – two hyphens be...

Re: Dashes and hyphens

I create hyphens, en rules, and em rules as Ioa suggests. One additional thing, some fonts do odd things with "dashes". For example, conflating hyphens and en rules visually- a pox upon them. i.e. hyphens and en rules look the same in the editor, yet are different characters; and so would ...
