Re: Scrivener crashes when entering/leaving full screen

I'd appreciate an acknowledgement of this bug. In case it isn't clear – because I spent the time to create a minimum case failure – this is a general failure when leaving full screen with Scrivenings in the active editor. I'm impacted by this crash approximately ten times a day, because of the inabi...

Scrivener crashes when entering/leaving full screen

1. Create a new blank Project and create a second document 2. Go full screen 3. Create a Layout and check Use Selected Layout When Entering Full Screen 4. In Scrivenings Mode (cmd+1), select the two of Documents in the Binder 5. Exit full screen. Scrivener will crash Additional: Once you have an act...

Re: Live counts show pages missing

From the manual:

The statistics displayed in this area are set by the Live counts show option in the Editing: Options preference pane. Pages will only be counted when using Page View.

Is this happening for you in Page View?

I do this for all my Scrivener folders and files, though I use iCloud.

(Not everyone understands or even knows about symlinks, so usually I don't mention them.)

Re: Learn / ignore spelling domain

When doing learn or ignore spelling when are those words stored?. Learn Spelling adds word to the text file: ~/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary Ignore Spelling will temporarily ignore the misspelled word for that session, in all documents throughout the project. At the project level, whole Scrivene...

Re: Looking for something in backup files

First things first: take a copy of your current project. Just drag if, while holding Option, to Downloads or wherever you are comfortable. Then, rename it – I usually append 'save' or similar. Relax. Your project is safe. If you have no idea when you accidentally deleted the missing folder, then you...

Re: Word Count Displayed as Symbols

Can you elucidate "perform a word count" in Scrivener? In general, I use either the word count in the big search box or in the project targets dialogue. Sometimes I use the value in the footer after selecting docs/folders in the Binder. In none of those cases do I see the symbols you menti...

Re: Why is last update downloading so laggy?

The forum has been slow too, recently. Not terrible, but kind of 1990s dial-up slow.

I won't speculate on reasons – not very internet of me, I know – but I did see some database errors consistently a few weeks ago... so more of a conspiracy thought – very 2020 internet.

Re: Looking for source material for creative writing workshop

Philip Pullman's essay The Path through the Wood might be of interest. As well as the core idea – stay close to the path, if you wander too long in the woods you may lose your readers – towards the end of it Pullman mentions Mark Turner's idea of image schemas from his book The Literary Mind . There...

A friend of mine had one, so I tried it out. Had it not been for the screen size, I'd have bought it. It's pretty much perfect as a writing machine.

Re: which would be best for Scrivener: a new mac or iPad?

The nicest part about a Macbook 12" is that it is as silent as an iPad and it doesn’t het as hot as my MBP. I can use it in bed when my wife is going to sleep. The new MBA is similar – I don't know about the old one. The only time I've heard the fan is during macOS updates. The 12" doesn’...

Re: which would be best for Scrivener: a new mac or iPad?

I had to make this choice in 2018. I went with the new MBA (which was announced while I was thinking), and I've had no regrets. I also have a 15" MBP as a "desktop" and sync everything via iCloud. The MBA is very much my writing machine, so the base model was fine, and I've installed ...
