Re: Formatting ellipses

According to this FAQ, either is fine: https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/qanda/data/faq/topics/SpecialCharacters/faq0015.html But either way, if adding non-breaking spaces is too cumbersome to type while you're writing in Scrivener, you can either set up a compile-time substitution for 3 periods ...

Re: Formatting ellipses

Does Windows not give you a way to enter the UTF-8 ellipsis glyph? It’s easy on the Mac, with a very simple shortcut and, at the bottom of the Edit menu there is an entry to open a panel of symbols and other characters. Mark And if that's too cumbersome, you can just use a compile-time replacement ...

Re: Opening projects created with Mac v. 2 with Win v.3

The second error is because Windows helpfully lets you browse inside a zip file, but it doesn't actually unpack it. Try right-clicking on the .zip archive and select "extract all" or similar. The extracted copy will be the one that Scrivener can use.

Re: Is this a bug?

Regarding the support email, check your spam filters, or maybe they're just very busy, and you haven't reached the top of the queue. As for the reset... I personally don't need to do that often, but I know that if you are just using <$n>, then the syntax is <$rst_n>. So wouldn't the syntax for your ...

Re: Scrivener 3: Lock the Binder?

Instead of a screenshot, try compiling to an enumerated outline in PDF format, then re-import that into your Research folder.

Re: Keyboard most similar to MacBook keyboard (particularly ctrl, fn, cmd key placement)?

What are your other criteria for a keyboard? You can't get anything more similar than an Apple "Magic  Keyboard", but I assume you know about that option.

Re: Working with chapters instead of scenes.

It looks to me like you've misunderstood the instructions a bit. "stuff" and "more stuff" are folders, not documents. While scrivener is very flexible about the definitions of folders and text documents, I'm not going to confuse matters by going into that... See those little arro...

Re: Old laptop dead. How to deactivate now?

Unless you are at the limit because you have lots of old systems you use due to multiple locations or plane old laziness :) Yeah? What happens then? I was under the impression that the oldest one just got automatically deactivated when you activated a new one. Is that not the case? I'd really hate ...

Re: Old laptop dead. How to deactivate now?

As far as I'm aware, while it's good practice to deactivate Scrivener on a computer that you're going to re-sell before you wipe your personal data, you don't have to. You get to install on multiple computers that you own for personal use, and if you run up against the hard limit (10? 5?) the oldest...

Re: Fork 'post-process on the command line'

@rdale: I did try the nohup option, and it doesn't work: Scrivener still waits until all processing is done. The issue is not that I'd like a script to launch another but not cause the called script to be killed by the system when the caller exits. Rather, it is that I'd like the caller to exit bef...

Re: New Beta version via Update-option OK?

In my opinion, the updater should also be tested, to make sure it does its work properly. Maybe that language should be removed, or better yet, changed to ask people to make use of it.

Editor ruler overlaps text when document is loaded

Whenever I have the ruler visible in an editor, and I click on a document in the binder, even if the cursor is at the first line of that editor, the ruler overlaps that first line a bit. It's a minor irritation usually, but gets more irritating when I'm reviewing a lot of small documents, and keep h...

Re: Act View/ Save the Cat style grid for Corkboard

I've done this for years with stacked corkboards. See Mac manual section 8.2.8. Hope this helps! EDIT: I see that you're a Windows user. In that case, stacked corkboards may not be available to you. I would expect them to be in the Beta, but what do I know? :D In any event, this feature works quite...

Re: Changing computer

This is a variation on the question. My old laptop just died--the charger connection is broken, the battery ran out, and it's now just a doorstop. NP, it was old anyway. Got a new one. The Scrivener (Windows) install went fine and the license code took. But I'm wondering about that old one. There's...
