Re: Compile for PDF....trouble with settings Pt. 1

... and to follow on that, it appears to me that the combination of section types that are assigned to each of the folders in your manuscript, the section layouts that are assigned to those, and the binder titles is what's causing the various, confusing set of "chapter X" to appear in your...

Re: Compile for PDF....trouble with settings Pt. 1

Before I delve in to what the compile issues seems to be, a bit about forum usage: If you just replied to your initial post in this thread, the images could have been added to that reply. As you've done it, there is no link between pt. 1 and pt. 2 discussion threads. As for your compile settings... ...

Re: Mac backup on windows

It's possible that the current (v1) Scrivener for Windows would open it and convert it to a version that the beta can then open and convert to the most recent project format.

Re: PDF viewer/annotation recommendations?

Never mind... it's behaving the way I want now. It didn't before, months ago, where it would open the file in the main interface window, rather than a separate one. Now when I use the copied file url (right-click, copy as page link), in another app, it opens in a separate window at the page I got th...

Re: PDF viewer/annotation recommendations?

So, if you add a page link, copied from DT, and add it as a Scrivener bookmark, how do you get it to open the PDF in a separate window? I couldn't find any setting that would prevent it from loading in the main interface, as if I'd done a document search and clicked on the results (so it's only open...

PDF viewer/annotation recommendations?

The key feature I want: I need it accept file:///path/to/pdf.pdf?page=100 style links, or similar, and open the the page specified in that link if it's the default program for that file (or all PDFs). The only stand-alone readers I know of that fit the bill are Adobe Acrobat and the Devonthink pdf r...

Re: Vic-K

He was so kind to me when I posted about the loss of my dog. He shared condolences in private messages, and it was so comforting to exchange words about our furry companion animals.

I've been missing his oddball humor for a while now, and I'm sad to learn of the reason why.

Re: how to regenerate the Scrivener user manual (⌘ ?)

No, you don't have to worry about your settings. Your preferences are stored in a folder under your account (/Users/youruseridhere/Library/...). That folder is normally hidden from users, so it's hard to fiddle with by accident, but that's where application configuration files are. Some applications...

Re: how to regenerate the Scrivener user manual (⌘ ?)

With Scrivener in the foreground, holding CMD ? (CMD SHIFT .) I get the Help menu selected, with the cursor in the search field. Are you talking about the same manual you get from the Help->Scrivener Manual? If so, I assume the easiest way to get that back is to download a fresh copy of Scrivener an...

Re: A question about Bookmarks

Could you explain the difference between a relative path and a full path? Thanks! A full path starts at the "root" of your hard drive (Macintosh HD in the finder), and includes every folder between that root (/) and the final folder (Users/sgulland/Documents/myproject), whereas a relative...

Re: Moving character files between projects

Some people also just keep entire series in one project. Book one would either end up in a sub-folder of the draft folder, and then book2 would get its own folder, or some people just move entire books' worth of files and folders in & out of the draft folder as needed. This allows you to share o...

Re: A question about Bookmarks

The most robust way to move a project and its linked files would be to have them all in the same branch of your directory tree. For instance, you could have /Documents/MyBigProject/Images and /Documents/MyBigProject/Text/BigProject.scriv. If you move the entire MyBigProject folder as one unit, the ...

Re: Binder File Names as Chapter Titles?

When you compile, after choosing what kind of compile settings to use (Novel, most likely), you have to assign your chapter section types to a layout that includes the binder title. Are you aware of how to do all of that? If not, I suggest looking at the appropriate section of the interactive tutori...

Re: A question about Bookmarks

There isn't a way to track file moves/renames for those files kept outside of a Scrivener project. As for crashes; get an external USB drive that's double (or more) what your internal storage is on your Mac. Plug it in, go to your Mac's Settings app, then to Time Machine, and select that disk as you...

Re: Compile is using (a) old versions of (b) files I haven't selected

In my mind, there are two likely possibilities: A) You are opening an old version of the compiled output, while the new compiled output is going to another folder or filename. B) You duplicated your own documents (possibly outside of the draft folder), edited the duplicate, but your compile setting ...
