Re: Where does Scapple save your files?

Okay, I think I've got it... ⋅  You were working on a scapple document named (for instance) "MilDollarIdeas.scap" ⋅  You wanted to copy that file to an external drive, so you connected that drive... ⋅  ...used Save As and navigated to that external drive and c...

Re: Scrivener project won’t open

You don't have iCloud Desktop & Documents turned on, do you? If you do, then parts of your project could be "in the cloud" instead of on your hard drive, where Scrivener needs them to be. That might cause some sort of error where the project won't open.

Re: Where does Scapple save your files?

Scapple doesn't have a dedicated folder to put its files, any more than Word does. You can create a scapple document and save it to your desktop, to your Documents folder... anywhere you like. What you want to do is run a search using the file browser, starting at your C: drive (or whatever drive yo...

Re: Best practices for version control (revisions)

Writing anything out makes it look a lot more complicated than it is. For instance, if I were to wright a novel in Word, and I'd finished my rough draft, I'd do the following: ⋅  Use Save As to create a copy named "My fancy novel-1stDraft.docx" ⋅  Close the document (wh...

Re: Lost work

Hi Owen, The folder where scrivener automatically saves only has files from the last time i closed the program . It has no files from today. Is there anything else I can do? You're confusing terms. The thing that is automatically created when you close scrivener is a backup, not a "save"....

Re: moving book to Beta

However, the book is Very Big. I've already split it in half b/c it crashed Scrivener 1 too often, and now am again having problems with the growing main half. And, I find the version 3 interface *much*more readable. Out of curiosity, are you just using two files (1/2 book per file) in your binder?...

Re: How to make separate folders for back-up and sync in Dropbox?

Also, should I only be seeing one scriv file for each project in my live projects folder in Dropbox that syncs? Not multiple versions, right? Yes. Only one "live" (not-ZIP compressed) project file per project should be kept around at all. Archive all the others, and throw them into your n...

Re: How to make separate folders for back-up and sync in Dropbox?

Do you use File->Save As to "back up" your project? Another possible reason you have so many copies is that you may have been opening non-zipped backup projects in the backups folder. For example: "Take Me Back Scriv" would have backed up to "Take me Back Scriv 1", and ...

Re: Is Windows Scrivener worth the jump from Mac?

If you're really going to ditch the Mac, wait until version three is officially out for Windows, and in the mean-time, follow the Windows beta forums to see how it's shaking out. Do keep in mind that Scrivener doesn't currently support the touch interface well, so don't go into a purchase hoping to ...

Re: Best practices for version control (revisions)

One thing that's going to trip you up if you have to roll back is that reverting one snapshot for one document doesn't revert the other document you moved the paragraph to, to reference your example. So when you are using snapshots in this kind of major revision, I suggest you start by selecting eve...

Re: Just about out of patience

So here - I'm giving you my own date. A definite 'drop-dead' date. If the product is not released by December 31 I am moving on from Scrivener for good. And I won't ever buy another product from L&L. This is my promise to you. I'm genuinely baffled by this. It's not like they were selling versi...

Re: How can I see scrivening title in composition mode?

In version 1.x of Scrivener for Windows, it's probably the menu Format -> Options -> Show titles in Scrivenings. I had to find that via a google search since I haven't run that version for quite a while, so hopefully that's accurate.

Re: Enhance fast writing in Scrivener

If you prefer to write without actually changing styles, you can use markdown syntax instead of the rich text formatting. At compile time, you have a limited number of MMD output types that can be selected.

Re: Need to input licence number

Thanks, rdale, I was wondering if L&L had come up with a fix for this as they have done for the Scriv issue. I did indeed find my licence number and it was a lot easier to retrieve then I feared. If you haven't filed your licenses away where they're easy to find... Do people do that? Wel...

Re: Need to input licence number

A number of people fall into the same boat as you regarding how the license verifcation fails, and you have to re-input it once. I think you'll find that doing that instead of trying to find a work-around to entering the license will be the fastest path to getting back to using Scapple. If you haven...
