Re: So Confused By Chapter Titles in Compile...HELP

Just to reassure you; the naming of documents without adding "chapter 1" to the binder titles is absolutely the standard way of using Scrivener. Deviating from that usually just causes people headaches, since you can't re-number them in the binder without editing each title by hand, one at...

Re: Can't change the style inside a sentence

I believe what you're describing is the difference between a paragraph style and a character style. I know when creating a style, you can change the formatting from "Save all Formatting" or "Save Paragraph Style" to "Save Character Style", but I don't know how to change...

Re: How do I remove "PART ONE" from the tops of chapters?

Just click the Section Layout button, and you'll be able to remove or alter it. If you're just getting started with this compilation, I'd suggest that you select some other preset than "novel with parts" if you didn't organize your binder into part folders with chapters within it. It'll be...

Re: Delete key not deleting selected text in editor

The only view in Scrivener that doesn't allow deleting is when you display a snapshot in an editor (for that matter, you can't edit them when displayed in the inspector or anywhere else either). If you're editing anything else, then Scrivener isn't at fault for not allowing the delete key to work. W...

Re: Problem with keyword and custom metadata searches.

This isn't directly related to your issue, but do keep in mind that if you have a space in your keyword, searching for that keyword can turn up any documents tagged with keywords that contain any of the words within your keyword. To clarify: Your keyword "Editorial Comment" contains...

Re: Syncing Scrivener Across Devices

The way One Note syncs across devices is that it is integrated with OneDrive and/or OneNote's notebook databases are saved to OD. The interface you're looking for is the Windows File browser viewing OneDrive/Dropbox, etc., where you keep your Scrivener projects. Just move existing ones there, and sa...

Re: Lost Scrivener Files

Search your hard drive for folders with a ".scriv" extension on them. Inside there should be a .scrivx file and multiple folders. Double-click on the .scrivx file, and the project (all the files and folders within the .scriv folder) will load in Scrivener.

Re: How to Organise Fiction Project

For "to do" work, I create Annotations in the text that start with the text TODO:. To find them, I have a Collection that searches for that text. Easy. I can only say thanks for this! This one is so simple that even havent thought of myself. I just write "research" and "TOD...

Re: Dropbox deleting all but current Scriv file

Also, I recently got an email from Dropbox support, saying that they are changing how they deal with symbolic links. If you've used that trick to link from (for instance) the single iOS/Dropbox sync folder to a folder outside of Dropbox, the new behavior from Dropbox will be to not sync the project,...

I don't know about the current version, but the beta of version 3 has File->Import->Research Files as Shortcuts, which does what you're after.

Re: Scrivener 3.0 Beta vs Scrivener 1.9.16

... although it may be a newer version. The best advice, seeing as you didn't state what issues you are hoping were fixed or worked around, is to install the beta in a folder separate from the default one (so as not to replace the current version). Then convert a project where you've been experienci...

Re: Help MERGING 4 similar projects

Why not just load your draft folders into outline mode, and then add the word- (or better yet-character) count column for this purpose? Then you've got a very succinct way of finding documents that differ by the number of letters and punctuation.

Tutorial refers to "triangles" in binder

I just noticed in another part of the forums that someone was trying to find the "triangles" in the binder (to expand/collapse a container document's sub-documents) as they went through the tutorial. They were running an older version of Windows that used + and - symbols for that sort of t...

Re: Closing Documents

Neither one of those is a triangle, (a shape with 3 equal sides). I would have thought that the arrows (what I'd call them) were determined by the programming toolkit, not the version of Windows, but I guess that's what makes for the discrepancy here. The tutorial should be updated to account for th...

Re: Stuck at a fixed width in spite of screen width

V. 1 does not seem to have a fixed-width editor option. I had forgotten that. Was there a "page view" setting as with version 3's View->Text Editing menu? It's also possible that a right indent got set, which is behaves similarly to setting a page size in standard word processors, but whi...
