Re: A one-tool toolbox?

What, no love here for the great DEC text editors like EDT and KED? My first few published pieces were created with EDT. I believe my fingers still remember the keypad shortcuts. Scrivener's my main tool, because it suits the way I work perfectly. Not long ago I wrote a 8500 word piece that had abou...

Re: Lost Hard Drive with scriv. file. Any other back up?

I don't know if time, or money, is the barrier for you, but DiskWarrier (about $100) has recovered many a "lost" file from a dead hard drive. It's really worth exploring. There may even be a better solution than DiskWarrior, but it's amazing how much and how well these programs can work. ...

I made it my business to assume that Nick had access to all the pictures.
What do people think? Have they had fun?
I had fun, but then I always have fun with short time-limited pieces. It got me thinking again about a true-crime piece that I've had in mind for years.

Re: Novel-in-a-Day (NIAD)... Day

If anybody wants a warming-up exercise I'll offer what a handful of my writer friends and I call the "One Hour Game." Somebody begins with a piece -- creative non fiction is the easiest -- that's written in about an hour. Anything. The partner gets the piece, reads it, and selects any part...

Re: Turning Smart Quotes on?

Lion here. My smart quotes turned off unexpectedly -- in the middle of writing. The beginning quotes were smart and the ending were not. I checked all the settings and they were appropriate. I logged off, restarted Scrivener and they came back. It's not much as a helpful hint, but it's a data point.

Re: Switching user accounts

Jaysen - I don't want to hijack writergal's thread, but I have more questions. Assuming that "administrators" is a group for ACL purposes, then why didn't setting the permissions (via Get Info) to allow r/w for administrators solve the issue? I would think that administrators was a common ...

Re: Switching user accounts

Thanks, Jaysen. I had forgotten that a Scrivener project is actually a folder, so of course the whole thing was more complex than fiddling with a single Word document. I did muddle through, taking the project to one desktop, doing the terminal actions, and moving it back. Then, when logging in as th...

Re: Switching user accounts

I'm having the same problem. I need to use 2 user accounts, but access the same Scrivener projects at will, from either. Both are Administrator accounts. As the other poster reported, setting permissions to R/W for both user accounts does not help. I managed to get Scrivener to open the .scriv proje...

Re: Long jump full screen

Scratch one seeming problem. I thought I had typewriter scrolling turned off, but I didn't.

I'll keep watching for the long jump, though.

Sorry, KB

Re: Long jump full screen

Same problem here -- two actually. This was not happening yesterday when I was on 1.52 under identical conditions. Full screen. In Edit Scrivenings mode. 1. If I make an edit towards the bottom of the page, the active line immediately becomes the center line. 2. At times (I'll pay attention and try ...

Re: Spaces after period

Wock -- That's interesting stuff. I used an IBM Selectric for years, but I never thought to inspect the space after a period. Of course the machine's long gone. I absolutely remember how wonderful that correcting business was. I hadn't known about the pronunciation of "leading," but it doe...

Re: Spaces after period

Keith, thank you. And Greg -- I'm sure you're right. I learned to type on an upright (Underwood?) typewriter in middle school about 1956 or 1957. Not the Victorian Era but certainly one in which we were taught to use the double-space method. A sixty-year habit's going to die hard but I'll give it a ...
