Re: Dropbox deleting all but current Scriv file

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll dig through this week and clean everything up. Doesn't appear to be storage limitations as I have more than 2GB free in Dropbox, 230GB on my MBP and more than that on the desktop. I do recall Dropbox is also running on my Win10 server, which I have not checked yet. ...

Dropbox deleting all but current Scriv file

I thought this was a one-off permissions problem, as claimed by Dropbox support, but this just happened again. I have three Macs-a new Mini, and old Mini and a MBP. The old Mini is my writing station. For years, Scriv on DB has been rock solid. Around 6 weeks ago, when I shut down Scriv and opened P...

Re: Scrivener project launcher

Dang, I thought nobody was interested as I wasn't receiving updates. Turns out updates were off. Thanks for the insights on this. Some of the OS focused are good ideas, but I'm hybrid. My primary writing station is a Windows 10 machine I set up in the corner of my office as a (relatively) distractio...

Scrivener project launcher

I'm at the point I have several Scriv projects I use regularly (two novels, a serial fiction series, and an "all other" file) and consistently switch between files. The New Project window in Scriv, with the templates, is wonderful for beginners, but doesn't help me very much. Clicking on t...

Re: Best digital format for editing on a tablet

Thanks everyone, great insights. I'm going to tinker now that I have some free time. I agree the iOS version of Scriv will change things, though I am interested in something that lets me add annotations and I wonder if it will. Overall, I still see Scriv as a writing/org tool and still do brainstorm...

Best digital format for editing on a tablet

Given that the iOS version isn't ready for public consumption, and also that I have a novel ready for editing, it would be great if anyone would share their success (and failure) stories from editing on a tablet? What I mean is that I want to export the book to a digital format and read it on the ta...

Re: Tips for visually identifying current text documents

Thanks for the ideas. I'll play around and see what I can do. I'll also add this to the wish list forum. Would be nice to have the option of adding some buttons for these on the toolbar or even just a single "current" tag that would highlight the specific file. I'm a big fan of visual cues...

Tips for visually identifying current text documents

I'm using the split screen for revising my first version. In order to do this, I have two versions of the novel in the same Scrivener file. As I work through the novel, I keep advancing each and sometimes have to move back or forward to check my notes. I know the back and forward arrows will take me...

Re: Used Scriv to finish a novel

I could certainly see that. The older monitor is 22" and fits a split view perfectly. Not too big, not too small. So I ordered a new 22" for my wife's office and will switch the old one up here. I can always work on my desktop on the 27" if I need to, but being able to build a writing...

Re: Used Scriv to finish a novel

Thanks, Keith. Excited to be getting so much done after tinkering for years. Going well enough I've decided to set up a permanent "writing only" space. Built a Windows box from an older computer I used as a home theater system and just managed to get all of my files synced into place. Sriv...

Re: Can't open some Mac files in Windows trial

Created a new copy and moved all of my files over to the blank version, which does open. Here's the interesting bit, which I just tested. With the file that would not open, it didn't matter if the Windows Scriv trial was open or not. Except for the one time, trying to open the project resulted in no...

Re: Can't open some Mac files in Windows trial

I spoke too soon. The file I want to work on today, project #2, doesn't appear to be locked between my two Macs, but my Windows Trial will not open it. I'm back on my laptop to create a copy and sync it though Dropbox. I did finally get a message from Windows Scriv telling me it was in use by anothe...

Re: Can't open some Mac files in Windows trial

Thanks for the advice. That's what I was doing and it is working. This morning, I tested a few more files on my desktop Mac and was able to replicate getting the error that tells me a file is in use on another computer. I'm still not receiving those warnings on the Windows trial version. I'm not sur...

Re: Can't open some Mac files in Windows trial

Tested more and discovered I can open one of two on my desktop Mac, but neither on the Windows machine. I was able to create a blank file and copy all of the contents from one file. The new file can be opened on all three machines. At least, to this point, I'm able to use the file on any of the mach...

Can't open some Mac files in Windows trial

I use Dropbox to sync between my Mac desktop and laptop to great success. This weekend, I rebuilt my old HTPC using Windows 10 and installed the Scriv Windows trial with the plan to use it as a writing station (Only running Scriv and a browser, maybe an image editor). I've successfully synced Dropbo...
