Grid Size Change Not Registered Unless Tab Away

In Preferences/Appearance, if you enter a new value for the Freeform Grid Size, then close the Preferences dialog, the change will not take effect. If you tab away from it first, it will.

Re: "Names could not be generated"

Thanks, MC. I copied your files into the folder and it works now. Note that this didn't make sense to me (why right-click on Scrivener.app?), probably because of my ignorance: - right-click on the Scrivener app in your applications folder - go to this folder: /Applications/Scrivener.app/Contents/Res...

A Problem Searching for Text

This has been happening to me a lot. Under some circumstances, Scriv won't move to the text it finds.

I've demonstrated the problem in this video:

Re: This Limitation Tripped Me Up

I'm sorry if I get fed up with these excuses. Quick search can be extremely valuable for displaying more than 10 results. As an example, I'd changed the timeline, and I wanted to get a quick look at all the instances of sentences referring to the days after an event. But that's not the point. The po...

Why Can't I Edit This? (Aargh!)

I want to edit the Front/Back matter format, as seen here: Screen Shot 2020-07-23 at 6.18.37 PM.jpg but when I hover over it, there's no pencil icon that appears that will let me edit it. I've double clicked, right clicked, and tried everything. I want it to be like this, but I can't edit it! Screen...

This Limitation Tripped Me Up

Because I'd changed the timeline of my WIP, I needed to locate all instances of the word "days." I searched like this: Screen Shot 2020-07-21 at 3.06.19 PM.jpg The problem was that unbeknownst to me, and despite plenty of room, the number of results was limited to ten. As a result, I faile...

It even fails to record the change in other situations. Here's a demo:

Re: Problem with Auto Quit—Limits on # Minutes??

Here's one bug: Set autoquit to one minute. Close Scriv Open Scriv Set autoquit to 480 minutes Close the preferences dialog Open another app. Wait. After 1 minute, Scriv will quit. Open Scriv, and you'll see that the autoquit time is set to 1 minute. Apparently, it doesn't save that preference until...

Re: Problem with Auto Quit—Limits on # Minutes??

My guess is that the malfunction was a side-effect of the crash you experienced, rather than an invisible limit to integer ceiling that can be stored here. Preference file writes can sometimes be deferred while the software is running. Have you tried setting this value, and then restarting the soft...

Problem with Auto Quit—Limits on # Minutes??

I finally decided to force Scrivener to quit if I left it running overnight. I set "Quit after inactive" to 480 minutes (that is, eight hours). Today, I noticed that Scrivener had quit unexpectedly, so I brought up the Preferences dialog and saw this: Screen Shot 2020-07-20 at 7.43.18 AM.j...

Re: Drag and Drop Failure

I think I know what's going on. In Scrivener, after I've been using it for a while, when I click on selected text I must wait two seconds before I can drag it. In every other app (Textedit, word, chrome, for example) I've tried on my Mac, I do not have to wait at all. This video illustrates this: ht...

Reasonable advice, but often I haven't decided to finish writing for the day. Get up for lunch, for example, life happens, and I don't get back to it until the next day.

Re: "Names could not be generated"

I've dealt with this issue and concluded that the Indian and Hindi name list is broken. Here's the thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58522&p=297762&hilit=name#p297762

I've got a love/hate thing going with the name generator.

Re: Drag and Drop Failure

Thanks, but that's not the issue.

1. I saw it failing in Scriv.
2. I experimented, and no matter how careful I was, the selected text wouldn't drag.
3. I did the same thing TextEdit. Dragging and dropping worked fine.
4. I quit and restarted Scrivener, and it immediately worked fine.
