Re: You think you're original, but learn that you're not!!!

Today, I took and compiled just the first two chapters into ePub format and put it onto my tablet and let a friend read it. He liked it! And he's a big-time reader of fiction. But here's what threw me... He said, "Wow - this sounds like X," and named a famous writer who has written a lot ...

Re: A successful author's advice

I must be too much a guy. I just don't 'get' romance novels. I didn't either, until I read that "romance is just pornography for women." Very simple, isn't it? We're not so different after all! But success there isn't that different from success in other areas, so you might want to read D...

Re: Going from Premise to Story...and Plot!!

Hey! Just an update, for the record: I've found the answer. It's pretty simple and obvious, but I couldn't see it then. How to go from a premise to an actual story -- and then an actual plot?? Two steps! Still hard work involved, not a magic solution of course...but it works (for me). 1) Read non-fi...

Re: Going from Premise to Story...and Plot!!

Thanks, Guys! I should say that I've been lurking these forums for some time and am familiar with the references cited from you all's previous posts. :D It may be that this is a question with no answer, no specific answer. I guess I'm essentially asking where stories come from...how to go from egg t...

Going from Premise to Story...and Plot!!

Hi, Everyone, Aspiring Author here, first-time would-be novelist, though I've had luck with the short story form. My question is, how do you good folks go from a promising premise to a successful story?? I've got a few characters, a setting, a "McGuffin," and even an initial couple of scen...
