Re: Possibly Lost Everything

If you have an intermittent or otherwise unreliable connection, I'd recommend pausing synchronization until you have better access. I've seen weird results if the connection comes in and out while there are unsynchronized changes. Katherine I know I mentioned this far back in the thread but I use C...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

Just adding context in case it helps. I do have extensive IT experience (hardware/software/networking/web) and what I say related to hardware/software could be helpful to someone here. The encrypted drives I use for writing are never more than 4 GB or 8GB (current). I think it would take a ridiculo...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

What am I missing? I'm happy to stand corrected, but I'd like to see reasoning, not obscure recommendations without substance. That's no way to treat grownups. Well, people are not always precise about terminology. "SD card" potentially covers a vast array of devices at a vast array of pr...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

Yes, Dropbox allows you to work offline. Just make sure to install the Dropbox software on all affected machines. Yes, there are known issues with Google Drive and Scrivener projects. Google Drive doesn't appear to handle Scrivener's frequent saves correctly, which can lead to unrecoverable data co...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

... Scrivener is the LEAST intuitive software I have ever seen in 30 years of computer use. Sheesh. But.......when it's working, man, I just love it. I wouldn't go that far. I find Scrivener very helpful in a variety of ways. If you want access to your work on a laptop or desktop (or even on a desk...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

If you're going to transfer a project between computers by manual means -- as opposed to a synchronization service like Dropbox -- it's *essential* to have a clear naming convention that tells you which version is which. That's true whether you're using USB drives, email, or copying back and forth ...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

From your original description, it sounds like you only grabbed the .scrivx files from within the .scriv project folders of your projects. The .scrivx file is like a library's card catalogue--it's just a listing of the books in the library, with a few facts about each book. If you want to move the ...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

To understand what's going on on your drives, it would probably be helpful to gather some more information. What do you see when you look at your files in a file explorer: Does "vacant" mean all files have a size of 0 bytes? Scrivener stores your actual writing in rtf files in the Files/D...

Re: Possibly Lost Everything

Well, without any response I took the long path and contacted my online backup. Fortunately, I was able to recover almost all of what I had.

I'd still appreciate knowing what happened and if there are tools to repair or recover my scrivener files.

Possibly Lost Everything

For several years I've saved my writing to a security USB drive. Naturally, I have had multiple backups locally and online. As fate would have it my encrypted drive started showing signs of failure so I immediately pulled everything from it before it went completely. I took a bit of a writing break,...

Re: Scrivener program folder

I just attempted to download the latest update (1.7.1.0) to my laptop. I've verified the EXE location via the shortcut I use to open the program (C:\Program Files (x86)\Scrivener\Scrivener.exe) each time I use it (its never changed or been reinstalled). When I attempt the download I'm told that &quo...

Re: Formatting issue

Does anyone have a clue why this has happened?

I've continued working with the deviation. While its quite minor I'm certain it will not stay that way when its time to compile.

Formatting issue

I have five chapters written in my new project. Oddly enough the spacing is different with some of the chapters. By this I mean that there is a hard break after a paragraph that leaves a blank line before the next paragraph. This is only happening with one of the pages and with any new pages that I ...

Re: Slight issue: Margins

It seems that CreateSpace has misled me. I exported my manuscript to Word format and adjusted the margins there. Sadly, that adjustment did nothing to rectify the issue I was having with CreateSpace. Based on the message given me by the CreateSpace proofing viewer for internal content my 8.5" x...
