Never-before-used Scratchpad hangs with Scrivener 3.1.4

I was right-clicking the Scrivener icon in the Dock and saw an option for something called "Scratchpad". It looked interesting, so I figured why not. I was presented with a dialog telling me Scrivener needed to create a folder to contain the scratchpad files. That was fine, and I accepted ...

Afraid not. I noticed it several OS releases back. It's not new to Catalina.

Re: General Question for IOS Scrivener

I mean is it okay to write a story ( full length) in the iOS Scrivener app? I am constantly on the go and use my iPhone daily to read, write, etc.
Hope this helps.

Very much so. In the actual work of writing, Scrivener for iOS is definitely up to the task.

Re: I guess Scrivner is way better on MAC

After Scrivener, my second most critical application is DevonThink, which is Mac only. That alone would be enough to make me stay with the platform. Katherine The entire reason I discovered Scrivener, lo these many years ago, was I was looking for a fuller-featured replacement for DevonNote, DevonT...

Re: Quote Following Emdash. Has This Changed?

I've noticed that one myself.

What I do to force closed-quotes after an em dash (US keyboard) is this:

OPT-SHIFT-[

That's option, shift, and the [ or { character pressed in combination. It produces the ” (close quote) character.

I found turning off typewriter scrolling got text selection working much more steadily. So if it's on in your editor, try disabling it.

Re: Cannot select bold or italic format in editor

Interestingly enough, 3.1.4 does seem to correct the problem for me. I'm using Catalina beta 10.15.1 19B68f, which may or may not be related to anything.

Re: Cannot select bold or italic format in editor

I can’t help myself, but I am curious, is this a font-specific problem you’re seeing? Have you tried it with any other common fonts, like good old Times New Roman or something? It's a fair question, and yeah, I've tried it with other fonts too. It doesn't appear to be specific to Georgia, and it is...

Cannot select bold or italic format in editor

Catalina beta 19A558d, Scrivener 3.1.3. On both my Air (2014) and Mini (late 2012), I am not able to hit cmd-B or cmd-I to bold/italicize text in the editor. If I select "Show Fonts", both the bold and italic options are there, and work; but the Bold and Italic options under Format > Font ...

Re: Suggested spellings no longer function under Mojave

This was an ongoing problem with Mojave 10.14.5, as well. However, it seems to have been addressed with the latest Scrivener release, 3.1.3. I can no longer replicate the error, even with documents considerably longer than 8K words in length.

Re: Suggested spellings no longer function under Mojave

On the project I'm working on the problem only occurs with documents that are inside the "draft" section of the binder. This looked really interesting, so I tried it too. Unfortunately I can't report the same. Spelling popup suggestions fail whether or not a document is in the "Draft...

Re: Suggested spellings no longer function under Mojave

Have you checked to see if it's triggered by character count rather than word count? That was one of my thoughts as well. To the best of my recollection, char count doesn't seem to be the specific trigger either. I wouldn't expect char count to be the operative difference here, since spell checkers...

Re: Suggested spellings no longer function under Mojave

I don't know if it's related, but there is a significant delay in the pull down menu appearing in Scrivener compared with other apps such as Safari or Pages. Yup. I always know when the suggestions are going to fail in Scrivener, because of the delay in that popup's appearance. When the suggestions...

For me, it begins manifesting when a file exceeds 8000-9000 words in length. The exact word count appears to be inconsistent, but by 9K, suggestions are no longer functional.

Re: Spellcheck oddity with the text: "straight and narrow"

Oh, hell, I got my bug reports mixed up. You may well be right on the grammar — though if I have not asked my machine to check it for me, I do not appreciate its insistence on doing so — but my focus is on spellcheck lookup failure. Obviously I'm obsessing on it, sigh.
