<snip> Mr X, open the dock preferences and uncheck "show recent application in dock". That should reduce your level of frustration a tad... <snip> Jaysen, thanks. I don't know how I missed that … maybe because of the different dialog including menu-bar control that I spent time working ou...

Re: M1 Compile Times

Apart from that, my beefs so far are with Big Sur. I like to keep a minimal dock, with only finder, trash and icons for open apps/programs. But although I have removed all the other icons from the dock, when I use an an app and then close it, it's icon remains in the dock and I have to Ctrl-click a...

Re: Affinity Apps: Making your book look beautiful at 50% off.

Recently acquired a new recreational toy which has me thinking of dolphins, rum and alien infested triangles. ;) Nice! My wife and I are looking at buying our first sailboat here -- there's an Ericson 27 that's popped up in the local area that might be a nice buy. I joined the USPS and have been bu...

Re: Affinity Apps: Making your book look beautiful at 50% off.

Mr X, things are well! Recently acquired a new recreational toy which has me thinking of dolphins, rum and alien infested triangles. ;) I like the pencil. and when coupled with Nebo app (2020 air) I find it effective for nearly every use I have. If only it was mine and not the boss lady's. I don't g...

Re: Affinity Apps: Making your book look beautiful at 50% off.

Mr X,

I find the Apple Pencil (the actual apple product) helps me a lot. Other stylus not as much but are better than nothing. I know I don’t have the same causal as you, but a stylus might be worth a try.

Re: WhatsApp Replacement

PIGGY!!!! The point I was going at is that today's systems have so many layers that no APP can ever guarantee security. If I can hack your mobile and install a kernel module that mirrors input and output (that can never really be secure) then all your encryption is useless. This is in the bag of tri...

Re: WhatsApp Replacement

In the end you will use an app that others are using otherwise who will you communicate with? The average person will not be assessing (or probably give two hoots about) the detailed security angles. Luckily, apps like Signal (for now) are there for people who *do* give a hoot about it -- like jour...

Re: WhatsApp Replacement

As a nonprofit, can it be bought? https://signal.org/#signal nonprofit.png "Don't be evil." Non-profits can always shift business models. Code can always be "divested". MySQL is a perfect example of this. MySQL is no longer OSS now that oracle owns it. You have to use Maria (a M...

Re: WhatsApp Replacement

Signal is used by folks in govt and LEO for “official” real-time communications. They are starting to collect significant data for tracking some information but at this point it is not info that most would consider compromising to individuals or content. Well, they're end-to-end encrypted and don't...

Re: WhatsApp Replacement

I installed Signal last week but later heard about Threema from the same person who had recommended Signal. As one of my friends who owns an internet security company said of Signal "It is a big target." It's a big target, but a pretty secure one. They can't lose (have stolen/give to law ...

Re: Scrivener for Windows

As Devin said, I'm only suggesting that ALL software gets updated and some of it monthly. From big names. To address DEFECTS that were released to production. If MS followed the level of testing and quality control that L&L is following, Vista would have never happened :) 1. Because user feedbac...

Re: Scrivener for Windows

I guess I'm confused. As both a Mac and Windows user, There are updates due to DEFECTS IN THE CORE OS for both platforms on a regular basis. In the case of Windows, every month... on a Tuesday. Is the problem that a "once a month install" for Scrivener is another set of downtime? Last time...
