Re: Would so LOVE to see Scrivener 3 for Windows during the Coronavirus Shutdown

I waste more time than that every two weeks just wondering if a 4th coffee for the day is going too far. I can save you a few minutes... than answer is NEVER "no". The 4th cup of coffee is home to the voices that start asking where cup 5 and 6 are coming from. They will write your book fo...

Re: How long is too long and when I should get worried?

If you're not working on it, of course the first book isn't going to be finished. Some books take months. Some books take decades. Don't worry about the calendar. Worry about putting one foot in front of the other on the road to finishing it. Katherine Outch! Did I got just kick to my rear (can I s...

Re: Many free commercial-quality fonts licenced by Apple in macOS Catalina!

My contact field is narrow: people in the arts (writers, actors, singers, directors, etc) who use their devices to plan or plot or produce or communicate, rather than output work. I prefer using MacBooks, but my partner has transitioned over the last year to writing exclusively on an iPad Pro (the ...

Re: Any localised meaning of the word "pal"?

There is also the "cynical use" in the US. Think a gangster talking to the lackey of a competing family.... Listen pal.... you tell your boss that if I see you or any of his other deadbeats on my street again... He'll be cashing in that insurance policy for your wife! It is negative in the...

Re: Many free commercial-quality fonts licenced by Apple in macOS Catalina!

Computers are like cameras. Just because every second "device" out there has one, it doesn't mean that no one needs a large formate film based box. There will ALWAYS be a marker for mocOS based "power machines. But they will get more expensive and be the realm of specialty users. Kind...

Re: Virus Attack! or, Backing Up to the Cloud, Google Version

Well... they are right... If you want to share files with other GMAIL users, upload your file to google drive, then share the file from there. As a matter of fact, stop the email silliness and just upload to google drive. That is what backs email attachment anyway. So... 1. make zip 2. Log into goog...

Re: Backing up. Not clear or intuitive. Fear of loss. Cognitive dissonance!

The part of my brain that refused to trust that my work is saved is now happy! About backups... Your profile says you have a Mac. Get yourself an external HD connected to your WiFi so your Mac can communicate with it, and activate Time Machine in System Settings. This. Just had a vid card go on an ...

Re: Scrivener - Windows & Linux Versions

I would not use Play on Linux. It's notoriously out of date in the best of circumstances. Also, be sure to update winetricks, because the one shipped with most distros is also out of date. I use wine-staging I've built myself, so there might be some patches it has that stock WINE does not. When it ...

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 9½ - SPECIAL APOCALYPSE EDITION

Another question...Would guns work? I know anything that needs power wouldn't, like electricity or batteries and stuff, but I have no idea how guns work, so I have no idea if they would in this scenario. Oh, yes. They'd work. Making more guns or ammo without electricity would be hard, but, yeah a h...

Re: Novel-in-a-Day 9½ - SPECIAL APOCALYPSE EDITION

I liked this one. Yeah, I’ve been thinking, “Finally, one that I know something about: the apocalypse!” I'm not a nut job, but I do like to think I've got a basic handle on what life would be like in America should this nightmare occur. Primarily because I've going through a couple hurricanes and s...
