Knowledge Tree

I'm writing a rather complex story with lots of major characters and 8 major threads. I use Scrivener because it allows me to write in a disjointed way - sometimes following a particular thread, sometimes writing a future scene because that's what I feel like doing that day, and sometimes following ...

Re: Shrink PrtScr photos when inserting into text files

When you Ctrl-PrtSc (snapshot application) or Shift-Ctrl-PrtScr (snapshot current window), windows take a snapshot of the window/app, however it does it at full resolution for most packages that display bitmap images. This isn't Windows fault, it is the application that provides the snapshot. The re...

Re: transfer files between two computers

You can just drag the folder containing the project to your flash drive, and from there on to your hard disk on your other computer. Alternately, you can crate and manage your project on your flash drive, so you don't have to have copies on your hard disk.

Re: Make .scriv a file format that scrivener opens.

What might b on the cards if you ask nicely, is for Scrivener to creat the shortcut for you in the root folder the projects are stored in, so all you'd have to do is copy it to a more convenient location if you don't want it there.

Re: Make .scriv a file format that scrivener opens.

I think you are making a mountain out of a pimple. If you can see the folder, double-click on it and then double-click the project.scrivx file. When I was programming, I often had people ask me to do things for them that would have cost me several days of my time just to save them 1 second of effort...

Re: Key Commands For Special Characters In Windows

You can enable substitutions, so you could type for example, ~a to have it replaced by an ä automatically. To do this, go to Tools/Options/Corrections and enable additional substitutions, then open the substitution list and add the trigger and replacements. The tilde should be an unshifted (natural)...

Re: Make .scriv a file format that scrivener opens.

If projects were stored in zip archives, then every time Scrivener saved a document (which it does whenever you stop typing for 2 seconds, navigate away from a document or hit Ctrl-S), it would have to rebuild the archive, which means copying all the content out to disk and then copying it back with...

Re: Local Dictionary needed

I also populate my dictionary with project specific names, locations etc, and would like to see this feature available. Perhaps a simple workaround, is we gain the ability to clone a standard dictionary (e.g. English/UK) and select the clone when we configure the project. This would then allow us to...

Re: Corks: possible to add text directly to underlying document?

That works for me too. When an idea hits me, I write it down. If I don't, I'll lose it. Nothing seems quite so tragic as an idea lost. I can come back and develop those ideas later, sometimes while I'm working on something else entirely, and the corkboard is an ideal place to dump random thoughts. I...

Re: Another writer was banished for plagiarism...

Just for information, pasting text from an external source and then editing that text to change the wording is *still* plagiarism. Where you need to copy and clearly mark, you should probably think about how it would appear in the final document. Double indenting from both margins and changing font ...

Ctrl-i - italics
Ctrl-b - bold
Ctrl-u - underline

All of which either set/unset the highlighted word(s) or toggle the current state.

Re: Update the interface

To anyone who thinks that going monochrome is a good idea (except for the visually impaired, naturally), just think about how many monochrome monitors were sold worldwide last year. That should give you a clue as to how popular monochrome is. For those of us for whom the early delights of green scre...

Oh dear, this is really going to date me, but I had to toss this one in: [Things I'd Do as an Evil Overlord] #133. If I find my beautiful consort with access to my fortress has been associating with the hero, I'll have her executed. It's regrettable, but new consorts are easier to get than new fortr...

Wouldn't you want the tab key to insert tabs into your docs? I'm pretty sure I would.

Re: Mad name generator feature request

Disclaimers on their own aren't sufficient to shield you from the threat of a lawsuit, in all jurisdictions. Far better not to use the name of someone prominent (unless it's a requested Tuckerization) in the first place. Actually in most countries, in order to sue you, they must prove intent of def...
