Re: Blank Front Matter in 1.9 New Projects

Since no one from L&L has ever posted in this thread, I'm not sure the developers care about this issue, but I will post this update nonetheless, as it relates to material disappearing . Not only did I start noticing blank front matter in 1.9 projects, and blank character and setting templates, ...

Thanks, Timecrash, for trying it first ;). I'll do the same.

Re: Blank Front Matter in 1.9 New Projects

I was hoping not to have to re-install, given that this is a fresh install on a new computer. But I suppose I can try it.

No, just the *.scrivx named for each project.

Re: Character sketch am i missing something?

Having the same problem. Sheets (character, setting, front matter text) come up blank. As this thread was originally from the summer, was there ever a fix? Note this was a clean install on a new computer running Win 10. This is an intermittent problem by the way, sometimes the template text does app...

Re: Blank Front Matter in 1.9 New Projects

I have the same problem (and in the Novel with Parts template as well). Character, setting and front matter sheets are all blank.

Anyone?

Re: Compile confusion

As a general rule, with the exception of Apple-specific features, all the features on Mac will be coming to Windows, so yes, image placeholder tags are on the list. Thanks. I hope the other Mac-only feature I mentioned above (when you click on a level type in the formatting section of compile, the ...

Re: Compile confusion

Windows doesn't have image placeholder tags at the moment, no. You can used linked images, which lets you more easily edit or swap images from outside of Scrivener; you can read about that in section 15.5.2 of the user manual. It's not the same as the placeholder tags, but it might help you toward ...

Re: Compile confusion

In other cases where you were going to compile straight to PDF from Scrivener, you might get better results using the Microsoft Office converters, if you have Word 2007-2013 installed. You can set this under the Import/Export tab of Tools > Options by clicking "Export Converters" and sele...

Compile confusion

My novel is set up in this hierarchy: screenshot of folder heirarchy.png So the novel is composed of three parts, each with multiples chapters whose titles are simply dates. Within the chapters are scenes that get stitched together without titles. I have front matter: screenshot of folder heirarchy2...

Re: Keeping files out of ePub TOC

Thank you MM. I had discovered Sigil after posting that and used that as a workaround. Two more questions. The first I'm repeating from the original post above: for the opening quote, is there a way to center the quote on the page without simply using padding? Also, I have saved my custom compile pr...

Keeping files out of ePub TOC

I'm finally forcing myself to learn compiling, first for ePub. My question is how to leave certain items out of the TOC. Currently every item complied shows up in the TOC. I do use front matter (only cover and title page) but in the manuscript, preceeding a folder containing chapter one, are four te...

Re: Annotations vs footnotes vs Inspector Comments

If you're interested in another approach, I use comments for those things that have been considered "good points" by peer review on my drafts, and Footnotes for everything that needs a revision, rewriting or consistency checking. Once I fix the "bad points" I delete the footnote...

Re: Annotations vs footnotes vs Inspector Comments

Thank you Amber for the detailed and helpful reply (I actually had read that list on pg. 137 first, but got overwhelmed and came running here :D ). I was leaning toward Inspector comments, but after your reply I'm leaning toward inline comments for the reasons you laid out. I tend to keep the Inspec...

Annotations vs footnotes vs Inspector Comments

Greetings all. I am finishing up a second draft of my novel, and have belatedly discovered the idea of adding notes to myself via annotations or footnotes or inspector comments. I haven't used them, only tested out the functionality. I'm shortly going to do a third major pass of the WIP. My question...
