Re: Scrivener closes immediately after saving changes

Thanks for your insight. Before this incident, I never even noticed iCLoud. After I implement something very like your stategy, I will go back to ignoring iCLoud. I'm also a believer in physical backups. I have Time Machine backups, which archive MOST of my computer (not anything iTunes, all of whos...

Re: Scrivener closes immediately after saving changes

Hi, and thanks for your response. The asterisk is not part of the file name. Never Was, Never WIll Be. The name of the current Project is EarlyFrostV4 I'm using iCloud and Dropbox, and I think that points to the problem. The project is stored in iCloud (which wasn't a problem before, but apparently ...

Re: Scrivener closes immediately after saving changes

I just copied what was in the window. The Project Name is "EarlyFrost." There's no lack of RAM or HD space. It only began doing this tonight with this project. (I haven't opened this project for a few months, but now it's time to re-start it. A few months back, it did the same thing with a...

Scrivener closes immediately after saving changes

Hi, folks. I'm writing/editing a tome (about 56 mb in its current configuration). Every time I make an edit and try to save (I'm using v. 3.1.3 (111945) and Mac OS 10.14.6), I get a dialog that says "There was a problem saving the project '*Early Frost Draft3. scriv'. Not all recent edits can b...

Re: Moving Scrivener to new laptop

I used "Migration Assistant" (Apple software that comes with your machine) and I got everything (from Scrivener, anyway) ... And my new MBP now looks exactly like the old MBP.

Re: Best MacBook for scrivener?

Note that the retina MBP also has an HDMI connection... Wow, Scrivener in HD! (I think it'll do 1080p, though I haven't looked that up... It looks great on my 65" Samsung.) I've never especially liked Mac laptop keyboards (not enough crisp stiffness for the way I mangle letters) but I've gotten...

Re: Happy Word and Scrivener workflow

How about cutting and pasting their comments as footnotes or comments within your Scrivener project? I've only converted from Scrivener into Word (it thinks I want footnotes and inline comments as running notes, when in fact they're mostly snarky comments that can be deleted), so there may be a more...

Re: Best MacBook for scrivener?

I'm tempted to answer "any MacBook you own is the best for Scrivener"... (Just a joke, folks...) That being said, I just bought a tricked out MacBook Pro to replace my aging MacBook Pro. Both of them are 15"models. I maxed out RAM, and the new one has a 1TB SSHD instead of the 500MB H...

Migrating Scrivener to a new machine

Hi, all. I'm upgrading my 10-year old MacBook Pro to a new one. I'll be using Migration (or is it Setup?) Assistant to copy all files and stuff from the old to new machine. (Then I'll wipe the machine before I give it to a friend.) Any oddities I should be aware of with Scrivener or its files when m...

Copy of Manuscript for backup

Hi, everyone. Here's what I want to do: Make a copy of my book as it is (including chapters and snapshots) now, so I can file that bit of amber as a super backup in the same Project (Just In Case, y'know!). I want to keep all the chapters in the original Manuscript folder in their order, but delete ...

Re: Transitioning from scenes to chapters/folders ?

I write book-like things in chapters, not scenes, so that's how I organize. Each chapter is a separate one-to-three word distinctly-named "document", all in the Manuscript "folder." (Even when I'm just playing around with the germ of an idea of a scene -- or even a line of dialog...

Re: Dragon Dictate for Scrivener

Anyone using Dragon Dictate or any other speech recognition software. I have seen reviews both good and also poor. Dragon claim 99.9% accuracy. I use it often (and have for a while), but I don't think it's really at 99.9%. But its accuracy is pretty high! The trick is to train it to the way you pro...

Re: How to reuse a single paragraph across different project?

How about creating a project that is nothing but individual chapters/documents such as "About the Author" , a separate chapter for "Other Books by this Author", another chapter for "Colors Most Enjoyed by this Author," and whatever else you wish? You'd create a new docu...

Re: UK formatting for >100 chapters

No! No! "And" is for decimals! Aaaaauuuuggghh! Interesting! Born and raised (or "and bred", if your prefer) in the U. S. of A (Charlottesville and Alexandria, Virginia, if that localization helps), and learned "One thousand five hundred and ten dot 35" was how to dicta...
