Re: Lost writing due to faulty syncing

So what he said is correct: the issue is related to the beta release No, not the beta release but other syncing software in general. And as far as Scrivener syncing with iOS devices only Dropbox is involved, not iCloud. So what he said was essentially that no user would have to think about what the...

Re: Lost writing due to faulty syncing

As to @kewms' comment on iCloud: I don't think anyone on this thread has said that iCloud was a wonderful and hassle-free solution, but I may be wrong. EDIT: BTW — and please don't consider this as support for iCloud — it seems that both articles mention clearly that the issues involved are related...

Re: Do you prefer Scrivener for iOS or Ulysses???

However, I’d love to hear from Scriveners here who use Ulysses what unique features the latter has that Scrivener might consider adopting as well. I realize non Dropbox syncing must await changes in iCloud (Scrivener is one of the only reasons I keep my free Dropbox account), but what else does Uly...

Re: Will iOS Scriv Work in iPad OS?

I think you have misunderstood my argument. I have been told by L&L repeatedly that Scrivener's screenplay formatting problems are due to limitations in the Apple text system, and therefore cannot be fixed. Your (and your team's) words, not mine. I got the same impression, which is why I though...

Re: Will iOS Scriv Work in iPad OS?

I only get ratty when people hint that I should retire or imply that our business will fail if we don't do x or y. :) My uncle was a wizard engineer. He could have sold his company in his late 30s and "lived" without any financial worries (we won't say "retired" as that has, for...

Re: Will iOS Scriv Work in iPad OS?

Nisus (I assume Nisus because they have RTF tables that work) Mellel (I mean, wow!) Storyist Software And Scrivener. Nisus is built on the macOS text system just as Scrivener is, and the amount of customisation I have done to that system runs to many thousands of lines of code. It's just wrong to s...

Re: Will iOS Scriv Work in iPad OS?

... in this case one person KB, ... there are much smaller outfits Smaller than one? Hah! :D No, my mistake. I was referring to Microsoft, Apple and Google, not L&L. The point is that small software houses have written their own text engines, so I don’t believe company size is necessari...

Re: Will iOS Scriv Work in iPad OS?

Why will people keep comparing Lit&Lat, and in this case one person KB, with Microsoft and Apple, with their large teams, huge bank balances and who program not only their private code for a Word and Pages, but also the underlying operating systems. That's a good point, but there are much small...

Re: iCloud Sync

The point I was trying to illustrate is that Dropbox is way more than just a sync service now with the Slack et al integration. If that is your problem with Dropbox, have you looked at the huge list of bloated things that iCloud handles? :) It sprawls as badly as iTunes. iCloud is a complicated and...

Re: iCloud Sync

I am, however, taking an honest evaluation on if keeping Dropbox makes sense for me with the improvements to iCloud. For me the big difference lies in reliability. My iCloud Drive stopped updating itself completely on my Macs in April last year. Apple didn’t know why and couldn’t fix it. Then it al...

Re: iCloud Sync

And I don't mind paying for software, but I really don't like subscriptions. I could buy a subscription for Dropbox, but only for my Scrivener projects, which would (in a way) make it subscription software, just to have a sync with the iOS version. Mmmm. Not sure. That’s a bit like saying my car’s ...

WWDC 2019

I thought it was great, though I think I heard six thousand sphincters tighten at the sight of a thousand dollar monitor stand.

Aside from that, a lot to look forward to.

Anything you’ll find helpful, Keith?

Scrivener IOS crash when trying to share an image.

G’morning! :)

This is repeatable (on my IPad Pro anyway)

I have documents that only contain single images. When I try to share the image by sending it to Files or the Photos app, Scrivener crashes (project remains undamaged).

If you have a crash like this, how do you retrieve the app logs?

Re: This is NOT an acceptable level of backwards compatibility (2 >3)

PS. Once you understand the structure of the new system (which takes a few minutes if you approach it with an open mind and try to forget version 2 compile) setting it up is easier and better. This is very good advice. I found the best approach was to start by creating fresh settings to get used to...
