Re: Looking for source material for creative writing workshop

Hi Auxbuss, thanks a lot, I'll absolutely have a look at this. It'll be interesting to see what kind of (fictional) books these business experts read (if any) and what they make of the lterary world in general. From their kind of view, it must look crazy to put so much time and effort into something...

Looking for source material for creative writing workshop

Dear fellow writers, I've been commissioned to hold a creative writing workshop. I've done this before, but this time it's different because it's not aspiring writers attending the workshop, it's business students who choose this as an interdisciplinary course. So, their motivation is different – th...

Re: Editing the first draft of a novel

I duplicate the entire draft, label the copy as a first revision and go through each file in a split pane view – changed text in the left, old in the right pane. I also use Revision Mode to colour my changes, I remove the colour once I'm happy with the changes. I repeat that process for every revisi...

Re: Quick Compile Button

Interesting topic – I compile every day to send out the newest chapters to my editor. Print current document is not enough, she needs MS Word documents. Export Files doesn't give me page breaks or page numbers, so I fire up the Compile dialogue at the end of each work day. Having said that, I've nev...

Re: Does Social Media know what I'm writing about?

Can't carry on writing, out now to buy a Land Rover and / or puppy. Have to talk to publisher about advance for the next book, can't afford this lifestyle on a shoestring. Will read »Crime and Punishment« out aloud next to my smartphone, let's see what I need to buy next ...

Re: Does Social Media know what I'm writing about?

Thanks all, The Age of Surveillance Capitalism has been on my reading list for a long time, We Have Been Harmonised sounds intriguing. My first YA novel is released next week and apparently, you have to keep in touch with your readers, book bloggers, »bookstagrammers« and the like via social media, ...

Does Social Media know what I'm writing about?

Dear Scriverati, following my publisher's polite, yet insistent hints to become more »visible« as an author and participate in the relentless self-marketing that apparently makes up 70% of our job nowadays, I have recently joined the obscure platforms »Facebook« and »Instagram« in order to take pret...

I will refrain from posting further and will search for a suitable alternative to Scrivener. Unacceptable quality.

Yes, please.

Re: Cannot get Chevrons to work anymore

You learn something everyday ... I always use alt+shift+q and alt+q for my Chevrons, had no idea you could shortcut them so well. »Life can be so easy«!

Re: Cannot get Chevrons to work anymore

They still work for me. Does this concern Scrivener only or other text apps as well?

Re: Social Media

Thanks again and sorry for getting back so late – I was busy writing a book. Now that the first draft is finished I've decided to bite the bullet and have created an Instagram account. I've decided to post images and maybe some quotes that transmit the vibe of the upcoming book, but nothing personal...

Re: Moving an existing project from Scrivener 3 to 2 and back to 3

Thanks a lot for your valuable hints! I did a test run and it works fine enough now for my purpose. Meanwhile, the space bar has started working again (sort of, just the left side). So I'll try and finish the first draft on the new laptop and get the repair done while wating to hear back from my edi...

Moving an existing project from Scrivener 3 to 2 and back to 3

Dear all, I have to bring my Macbook Pro 2017 in for repairs (yes, the keyboard ...), it could be away for up to two weeks. I'm working on a Scrivener project on a deadline. It's all set up in Scriv 3. I still have my mid 2009 Macbook Pro as a back up, it's on Mavericks and runs fine. Scrivener 2 is...

Sharing a text section / scene right from Scrivener

It's an idea for lazy bums like myself: I often mail scenes or text sections to editors / actors / producers by: Selecting the scene in the binder File -> Export -> Files I export as rtf, I locate the the file in the Finder I open Mail, attach the file, send the mail A »sharing« function to automati...
