Re: Only one portion of screen works - Windows 8.1 issue?

Eh, I uninstalled and reinstalled them, and they're working fine now (or at least the games are - I haven't reinstalled the Wikipedia app yet). They were ones specifically meant for Windows 8 and downloaded from the Microsoft store. I think they must have gotten corrupted somehow. Thank you! And dev...

Re: Only one portion of screen works - Windows 8.1 issue?

So, I recently got the replacement laptop and copied everything over (though I'm hanging onto it a little longer to make sure everything got copied over). And... now I'm wondering if Classic Shell had something to do with the problems I had on the old one. The battery seems about the same (to be hon...

Re: Only one portion of screen works - Windows 8.1 issue?

Ah, I thought it sounded a little early for Windows 10 to be out. And thanks! I got enticed to get the Lenovo Y50 for the specs. And the thought that if I really hated Windows 8, I could just do a clean install of 7 (I've got an extra copy here). But... surprisingly enough, I'm not hating it enough ...

Re: Only one portion of screen works - Windows 8.1 issue?

Sorry about the delayed reply - my topic notification got directed to spam. >.< Thanks, that does sound likely. I'll try testing it out in Safe mode and see what happens. It isn't a 100% issue, so I may need to test it a few times. Also need to go through and see if I can identify and delete/uninsta...

Only one portion of screen works - Windows 8.1 issue?

Hi! I recently had to upgrade my laptop, and (slightly against my better judgment) went for one with Windows 8.1 on it (mostly because the specs I was getting were great for the price I was paying). However, I've repeatedly had the problem of not being able to navigate properly in Scrivener with my ...

Re: Scrivener for iOS - When?

I love reading this thread. It always has me bouncing in my seat in anticipation. I know it'll be a ways down the road, but I'd like to add another vote for Cubby synchronization. At the moment, that's how I sync my writing between my desktop and laptop (and I end up reading files from their on my i...

Windows Narrator support?

I don't think this is a "feature" yet in the Windows version, but has anyone tried using the Windows Narrator on Scrivener? Or is this something that might be incorporated in future versions? I tried running Narrator while Scrivener was running, but while it read the Window and project nam...

Re: Character names recognised by spell checker

Interesting. I know this has been discussed, but I wanted to throw my support behind this idea, because it's exactly what I was looking for. Basically, I was hoping there was a way for the dictionary to be able to read the titles of the character and location sheets and recognize them as proper noun...

Re: Can't Select All

That's good to know, but when I did it, the margins ended up being funny (at the moment, my font throughout the MS is fine, so I didn't mess with that). All of a sudden, I have some margins at 8", some at 12", and some at 15"+. Most seem to be going with the latter two. It does look l...

Can't Select All

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but I didn't find it in the features that were different from the Mac or not yet implemented. I can't seem to find a way to select all the text in my manuscript folder to make global edits. I've tried selecting the draft folder, putting it in Scrivenings mode, and hitt...

Re: curly quotes for entire manuscript

Ok, so something weird. Even in Scrivenings mode, when I Select All, only the text in the section my cursor was in gets selected. I don't know if maybe this is a bug with the Windows mode or not. Which kind of defeats the Select All strategy. Still, at least now I have some idea how to use Scrivenin...

Re: curly quotes for entire manuscript

Thank you, thank you! I think that did it! It took me a minute to find Scrivenings mode, but once I got into it, I was able to select everything!

I may have to change the smart quotes back to tstraight in the future, but at least now I'll be able to do it all at once, instead of scene by scene. :D

curly quotes for entire manuscript

Is there a way to select the entire manuscript so that I can convert my straight quotes to smart quotes all at once instead of having to select the text scene by scene? I tried Ctrl-A, but that only selects the current text, and I looked at Project replace, but couldn't figure out how to search for ...

Re: Word Count Question

Aaaand I think I found the answer. I feel kind of silly for having overlooked this before, but apparently, I hadn't checked the "Documents included in compile only" box in the targets section.

Thanks!

Re: Word Count Question

Thanks for the response, but it doesn't seem to help. For some reason, that doesn't seem to change the count at all. I've tried doing this on both the research and the regular chapters. EDIT: FYI - just to check, I compiled the manuscript to a word document, and it's 128,137 words. I wouldn't expect...
