Changing ellipsis to three periods

I think Scrivener substitutes the unicode ellipsis when I type '...' There's a 2013 discussion that notes: "A good way to make sure that the output contains 3 periods when you compile: Choose "Convert ellipses to triple periods" in the Transformations section of the Compile dialogue. ...

Re: Straight and curly quotes

Aha. I did the transformation on the whole ms and it didn’t remove all straight quotes. Unaware of Linguistic Focus. Will check it out. Thanks

Straight and curly quotes

My Scrivener MS seems to insert both straight and curly quotes in text. Several examples here, one of which is highlighted. Screen Shot 2019-09-15 at 3.38.07 PM.png . I have almost always been drafting in TNR 12, which should always give curly quotes. I know I can fix this by compiling to Word, then...

Word count in Scrivener vs. Word

Scrivener's detailed word count of my draft novel is 98,780. When I compile into Word for beta readers, the count becomes 99,447. I have double-checked that I'm using the same (total) selection of files/scenes in the 'as compiled' Scrivener word count and the Word document. Is this an artifact of a ...

Export Outline with chapter/scene titles and comments

I want to print my comments, organized by chapter and scene titles. I've tried compiling using the enumerated outline, and I've seen several posts that attempt to answer this. I have attached files showing the process and result. I get a perfectly fine outline, but none of the right sidebar comments...

Compile section breaks

I have been trying to adjust section breaks in compile. I experimented with pasting a space after my custom *** and found that didn't work. I want <sgl space><***><sgl space>, but now I can't get back to my simple <***> custom between-section indicator. I get two sets of *** (see attached sample and...

Make line spacing and paragraph spacing equal

Publishing a fiction piece (as PDF for upload). The convention is no full line spaces between paragraphs, new paragraphs indented. I have set line spacing at 1.3 using TNR 12. paragraph spacing is set in an obscure part of section layout, and it is set in 'points.' See my settings attached. The resu...

Adjust page length in a long piece

Scrivener compile turns out a nice PDF for publication (in my case, trade paperback), yet there are specific adjustments I'd like to make to push or pull the text a bit. As in the attached, where the *** I use for a section break appear at the very top of a page. Should I just adjust margins a titch...

Re: Font size keeps getting overridden (Scrivener 3)

In answer to my own post, and a cautionary tale: I kept being unable to select a preferred font for my name on the title page of my novel. I finally figured it out: Scrivener was using the e-book settings for the title page when I checked compile front matter. Possibly my selection. Anyway, I deep-m...

Re: Font size keeps getting overridden (Scrivener 3)

I have a similar problem. My title page correctly compiles (to PDF, in this case) the title using the font 'chunk 5'. But my name keeps coming up Helvetica, no matter what font I use in the Scrivener front matter. Having read posts here, I tried to make a style called Author (attached 'author style'...

You were soooo polite to not add the much-deserved 'dummy' to the end of the question. Unchecking solved the problem.

Re: Can page numbering automatically skip front matter?

I have the same problem. I read the suggestion. I m using a somewhat modified compile format. I have it four section layouts (picture attached) The front matter comes in using the 'front-back' format. The pagination is set up as in the picture attached. The resulting output begins counting pages on ...

Preserve Formatting does not carry into .mobi output

I am compiling a novel for both Word (Create Space) and .mobi (and hope to go on to .epub). I have text messages in the ms that I have rendered in sans serif type and used 'Preserve Formatting' to differentiate such items from the normal TNR serif output. Works fine in Word, but the .mobi compile, w...
