Apostrophe and the Find/Replace Functionality

Hello... I was recently trying to use the Find/Replace functionality to change the name of a character in my story. The character had 2 apostrophes in his name (no spaces). The new name I had decided on had none. I pulled up the F/R dialog box and entered the old name and the new name, then hit &quo...

Maintain Actual Chapter Number Even When I Only Compile 1 Chapter

In my novel project, I sometimes need to compile a chapter out for other people to review (a critique group, for example). For any Chapter after the first, though, the actual chapter number is lost because the count obtained via the placeholder tags is based on the Chapters in the selection to Compi...

Re: Custom Meta Data Values

Sorry... just realized I posed a Windows question in the Mac forum. (And in the meanwhile, also found a large portion of the answer I needed.) I will move the rest of what I am trying to do into a new thread on the Windows forum. :)

Re: Custom Meta Data Values

On a Windows installation, I'm not getting the content of my tag, only my tagname... i.e., <$custom:mytagname> Here is what I'm doing: 1) I created a custom metadata field called "chapnum" that I give to my Folder elements (which represent my chapters) 2) I number these in order 3) When I ...

Excluding the Title Page from the Compiled Word Count

Hello all... I'd like to exclude the words of the title page from the word count that gets inserted on my title page. For instance, I have a title page of 19 words, and a story of 4990 words. I want the word count to show 4990, not 5009. I can choose to not count the words from pages not included in...

Re: normal.dot

I, too, have this problem. WinXP SP3 Word 2003 My Scrivener is setup to open with a project, and the current project that I am working with is one that I started from the ground up writing in Scrivener. That means no imported documents in it. My message doesn't say that it can't save the normal.dot ...

Re: Font Rendering in Editor

Thanks for the help, everybody. I, too, am starting to think this is just a problem on my end, with how my system renders the fonts, rather than a Scrivener issue. I updated my video drivers to the latest, but that didn't really make a dent. Also, I see no setting in the driver panel for antialiasin...

Re: Font Rendering in Editor

Just saw some of the other responses, so let me add: No slackware. I'm running XP SP3. I have a dual LCD setup, both at 1280x1024, 32 Bit color depth. NVidia GeForce 7800 GS (256 MB) Forceware 169.21 I saw issues like this on my laptop, I think... but I don't remember the specific fonts. I'll check ...

Re: Font Rendering in Editor

OK, here are a couple more screenshots. The problems in these shots are not as considerable as in the first, but still noticeable. Notice the vertical lines of the Rs in this one: http://www.timrohr.net/images/fontrendering3.jpg And, in this one, the left edge of the letter 'o': http://www.timrohr.n...

Re: Font Rendering in Editor

That's funny... I only found the font in the first place because of this error. Thinking that this sort of gray/black, in/out rendering was the way Scrivener was and that I just needed to find a way to get along with it, I was looking for a font that other people use. You know, find what their worka...

Re: Font Rendering in Editor

Thanks for getting back to me on this. Changing the zoom (the pic was at 140%, I think) changes it... some. The smaller the font (i.e., zoomed out), the better the rendering... but the harder the reading and the working-with. Also the floated F11 environment is a bit better, but still with noticeabl...

Font Rendering in Editor

Hey guys, great work on the new release! I've been working with Scrivener for about three months now, new enough that I'm still looking for the font I like the best for the editor... which is what I was doing (again) this morning before my writing session. But then I realized that there have been a ...

Re: I am absolutely livid...

Just to share something from another thread. There is something that goes on with file names... I'm sure someone here can explain better than I... but one person pointed out that they thought they had lost a great deal of text only to open a new text file, and it auto-populated with the text they th...
