Re: Rearranging words, sentences, and paragraphs.

Almost impossible to program, I would think. How does this work in Chinese, French, Russian, Arabic? Scrivener is not only used by anglophones, you know.

Re: New Macbook... going from Scrivener to Scrivener 3

Files (or projects) do not live **in** a program. They are stored in a folder somewhere on the hard drive of the computer. What you see in the Files menu of a program is a list of those files. So what you need to do is to find the Scrivener projects using the Finder on your old computer, and transfe...

Re: Complete Scrivener N00b, and I am lost/overwhelmed.

It depends on what kind of learning one is talking about. There is quite a long article on Wikipedia dealing with the many types of learning. Too complex for a forum!

Re: Complete Scrivener N00b, and I am lost/overwhelmed.

I always begin then set things up later if I feel like it. You need to forget some of the things you took for granted in MS Word and the like. Translation: I must unlearn what I have learned. Thank you Master mbbntu! Actually, I'm a psychologist by training, and there is a great deal of evidence th...

Re: Complete Scrivener N00b, and I am lost/overwhelmed.

Primarily, I did not want to start writing with Scrivener until I was sure that I wouldn't have to alter the manuscript too much when I was already well into it. In all the years I've been using Scrivener (13?) I've never used any template except the blank one. And I'm not the only one that does th...

Re: iCloud Sync

Okay, @MBBNTU what is the difference then? :) Errr! Well, one difference that I am aware of is that when you open the DT package, all files are kept in folders according to what type they are. So you get a folder for pdfs, another for rtfs, and so forth. But inside those folders are yet more folder...

Re: iCloud Sync

Well, one difference, if I understand correctly, is that Scrivener saves everything in original file formats. No, that is not correct: DEVONthink saves every file in its original format, too. It’s not really a database, like Evernote or DT. This is incorrect, too. DEVONthink "databases" a...

Re: iCloud Sync

It's nothing to do with any difference between DEVONthink databases and Scrivener projects. It is that DEVONthink's developers spent a LONG time developing their own sync mechanisms. They started this some time in 2015 or 2016 (see https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/betatestfornewsyncanddevonthi...

Re: Scrivener routinely crashing and becoming unresponsive

If I were having crashes that regularly, the first thing I would do would be to run some sort of maintenance software, like Onyx. Clearing out all the caches, repairing permissions, rebuilding the Spotlight index and launch database might have an effect. Onyx will scan the hard drive for errors, so ...

You need to investigate Placeholders. If you look under the Help menu, you will find a complete list of them.

Re: Getting to know this site

As I said in my reply to your other post, I think perhaps you misunderstand what this site is about. It is not a publishing platform like Medium. Scrivener is software that is available for Mac, Windows, and iOS. This site exists mainly for support of the company's products, though it does have sect...

Re: Affinity software: heads up

Thanks, Mark. Very glad to get that information. I've invested in Photo, which I already had on the iPad. As to the others, I wouldn't be able to find a use for Publisher, but I suppose I might draw the odd diagram at times, so might consider Designer. At least I have a day to think about it! Thanks...
