Re: IOS 13

Obviously, L&L knows how its sales fall and how many people use each version of Scrivener and how many of the features they use, In my experience, most people use a small portion of Scrivener's features and would probably be happy with what iPad Scrivener offers (without having to use or have a...

Re: APA - Scrivener->Word with Applescript

I haven't looked at the script, but I guess the standard thing would be to download it, unzip it, and put it in the Scripts folder inside your Library folder, then run it from the Scripts menu in Finder. And be prepared to do a lot of work if it doesn't function as you expect. AppleScript is fine fo...

Eh? Who mentioned the Command Line? Certainly not me. This is the correct Library:

Re: Double checking on Scriv 3/OS compatibility

I'm not a techie, but I'd say if it works, it works. But be sensible. Use a subscription backup service like Backblaze, which will keep a copy of your hard drive "off site". That means if your hard drive fails, or the computer stops, there is a copy in the cloud waiting for you. Don't rely...

Re: Backup pathway

There are two Library folders on a Mac. One in the root and one in the Users folder. That graphic shows that you are looking in the wrong one. You need to go to the Users folder THEN Library.

DEVONthink 3 (beta)

Has anybody been trying this? I've only dabbled a little. Is it just me, or have they messed up the navigation? In a decade and more of working in previous versions I always found the UI ... not something I enjoyed, but I could see some logic to it. The new UI has some things better (in my view) but...

Re: Organization

I'm intrigued by the mentions of HoudahSpot on this thread. I've looked at it before, but it seemed to be just a prettier interface on top of Spotlight. Given the number of smart people who swear by it, what am I missing? Katherine Brett Terpstra must be one of the geekiest people on the internet (...

Re: Organization

Nearly two decades ago I finished writing a book which, when published, ran to 560 pages with about 350 references to works that had been written in four different languages. It was written on a Mac PowerBook 180 using MS Word 5, and EndNote for the references. It took about eight years from beginni...

Re: Organization

@David G. Just to take things back to the problem of organisation and memory again, you might find it valuable to read this blog post: https://zettelkasten.de/posts/zettelkasten-improves-thinking-writing/ . The methodology is not for everyone, but it is probably worth knowing about it if you are sea...

Re: Organization

I noticed right away that Scrivener has a compile feature so naturally I assumed that writing AND formatting were an important part of the Scrivener writing experience. Why else would Scrivener focus on how a document is compiled, with proper formatting, etc.? The point is that a lot of formatting ...

Re: Organization

I am learning that, the way I write, and the way I think, is up to me, and only me. This applies not only to content but to the way I used tools to achieve my goals. This was really the main point that I wanted to make above, though I may have obscured it with too much other stuff. The process of d...

Yes, I suspect a lot of people are familiar with the game called Scrabble, and insert a letter that isn't there.

Re: Organization

@David G. Just so you know my background (which does not necessarily mean what I say will be useful) I have a PhD in psychology, some training as a counsellor/psychotherapist, and long experience of undergoing psychoanalysis/psychotherapy. Everyone has to find what works for them, and I believe that...
