Re: Typing Lag

My first response to "mysterious" problems is usually to run a utility like Onyx ( https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html ) to clear out all caches, repair anything that needs repairing, delete the Spotlight index and so forth. It doesn't always help, but at least I know that I've c...

Re: File from Trial Version

It sounds as if you have downloaded the application a second time. You don't normally need to do this. Usually you just put your registration details in the trial version and it becomes licensed. If you have two versions of the application on your hard drive, it is best to get rid of one of them.

Re: How to make Scrivener behave like Apple Notes?

Don't use any of the templates. Start with the blank one. Don't try to format anything as if you were using a WYSIWYG word processor. Just write plain text. You'll be fine. (I've used Scrivener since about 2006, or thereabouts, and I've only ever used the blank template. It was fine for an 85,000 wo...

Re: I'm an IT guy who's never owned a Mac. What should I buy to learn about supporting them?

If you want to get an idea of what software for the Mac is like, you could take a look at macupdate.com. And for what is going on in the Mac universe, Macrumors can be useful. There are some good guides for various Mac applications and so forth at Take Control Books. For geeky stuff, search out Bret...

Re: How to make spell checker recognize character names?

The spell checker is provided by the system software -- in other words, it is baked into Apple MacOs. See:

Re: What font do you use?

Fonts are not a big thing for me -- except that I have an intense dislike of Helvetica as a screen font. It irritates me no end that it seems to be the default everywhere I go. I used to use Verdana all the time, and I now use IBM Plex Mono on screen. They are about the only two fonts I've used in m...

Re: is there a cross-reference on scrivener?

You need to look at Placeholders under the Help menu. Be aware that there are a LOT of placeholders. You can probably achieve some of what you want with them.

The Technical Support for Windows section would be a better place to ask:

Re: Cursor with mind of its own

I recently received an email from the developers of HoudahSpot advising against updating to Catalina because it "had broken many things". This seems to include Apple's own Mail app, to judge by what is being written on Macrumors and the Eclectic Light blog. Unfortunately, this does seem to...

I, too, keep all my receipts. The oldest one on my present system dates from 2007.

Re: Scrivener iOS syncing via Dropbox continues to crash the app

a short „Hi we’re still working on it“ would be very reassuring That is pretty much the gist of Katherine's post late on 1 October. She also points out that it seems to be an Apple bug. So it might be better to light a fire under Apple instead of LitnLat. It seems that Apple broke it, so they will ...

Unfortunately, Google Dive is known to cause problems with Scrivener projects. See this advisory:

Personally, I'd also be wary of saving on the Desktop. Worth having a close look at the manual.
