Re: Shortcut "Switch to Bibliography manager and Find"

This really would be useful, and if Jon of Sonny Software is correct (highly likely) not too difficult to implement in Scrivener, because the feature is already in Bookends for Mellel to use.

Re: Best way to process RTF files after compiling in Scrivener

We're getting quite far from the original topic… I hope it's OK, since I'm answering a question posed by the OP. Briefly, then: 1) What is the difference between Nisus and Mellel in long documents? I have a lot of experience with Mellel, and have only experimented with Nisus from time to time, so ca...

Re: Best way to process RTF files after compiling in Scrivener

Hi Mark. I don't want to take this thread off-topic, but I've just tested pasting a load of CJK text into Scriv, exporting to rtf and opening in Mellel, and the result looks fine to me. If you're interested we can follow up by PM or email.

Re: Best way to process RTF files after compiling in Scrivener

For me, Mellel is still the best word processor, particularly for longer documents, despite its poor interface for imposing styles on imported text. YMMV.

Re: Best way to process RTF files after compiling in Scrivener

Unfortunately nothing similar is available in Mellel. See this thread on the Mellel forum.

Re: How keep formats, when export to Word?

If you can find out from your consultant how many words there are per page in the book format that you are aiming at, you can put that figure into Scrivener and get suitably adjusted page count. (Or just take a book of the same format and count the words on a few pages and take the average.) You put...

Re: How keep formats, when export to Word?

The estimated page count in Scriv is just going by the number of words. The number of pages Word uses to lay out you file depends on the number of words and the formatting.
One thing that will be making a difference in the direction of increased page count in Word: books are not double-spaced.

Re: Scrivener freezes on launch

No, I didn't. I thought (from previous experience) that they monitor this forum. I'm not inclined to bother them at this stage with a problem that has gone away. I was just hoping to hear what had happened behind the scenes, and to be reassured that it wouldn't happen again.

Re: Scrivener freezes on launch

Maybe that was it, Hugh. It isn't happening today, I'm happy to say.

Did anyone at Lit and Latte look into this? It seems to be fixed now, but it's not good to have unexplained intermittent problems: for all I know, it might be back tomorrow, or next week.

Re: Scrivener freezes on launch

Any thoughts about this, anyone? It makes Scrivener unusable while the Mac is connected to the internet: not a trivial problem. I've also trashed everything Scrivener-related in ~/Library and it makes no difference. Nothing relevant is showing up in Console, except one line when I force quit Scriv: ...

Re: Scrivener freezes on launch

Me too, and the same thing cures the problem, but only temporarily. I turned off Airport on my laptop and that allowed Scriv to launch, but just now (a few hours later, with Airport turned back on) it had frozen again. Turning off Airport and force quitting and relaunching Scrivener worked. Any idea...

Re: Another writer was banished for plagiarism...

Just for information, pasting text from an external source and then editing that text to change the wording is *still* plagiarism. Well (for the sake of students who may be reading) it may be plagiarism, depending a) on how much you change the wording and b) whether you acknowledge the source of th...

In my experience, Bookends works beautifully with Word. There's a set of scripts provided. See this page.

Re: Best bibliography tool to use with Scrivener?

I've used Bookends through a PhD and a post-doc, and have never felt the need to try other bibliography software (except Reference Manager on Windows, years ago -- a nightmare), so I can't make comparisons, but can say that the support for Bookends, via the forums and by direct email with Jon at Son...
