Re: Alternatives to Dropbox?

I read it that the Sync people are saying, "We’re not actually interested in working with multi-file projects like Scrivener, so we'll say it’s not suitable because then punters have been warned and if they get into difficulties they can’t come running to us for assistance." I’m pretty su...

Re: Alternatives to Dropbox?

I use Sync (sync.com) to share projects with my collaborator in China, where Dropbox is blocked and Box is not available. The bods at Sync say it is not suitable for Scrivener projects, but we've been using it for about 5 years with very few problems. Occasionally we've had conflicted files, but th...

Re: Link to File 'greyed out'

I think it's greyed out because that function is to insert a link to a file in a text document. Not into the Binder. For importing the PDFs you can got to File ▸ Import ▸ Research Files as Aliases.., which will do what you want - keep the file size down - without having to make the aliases first. S...

Link to File 'greyed out'

I've been trying to link to some some rather large pdf files, but under the Scriv 'edit' menu, link to file is 'greyed out'. The options offered are only to link within the Scrivener project itself rather than to external files or folders which is what I want to do in order to keep the project size ...

Re: Syncing Scrivener Across Devices

I work regularly with my colleague in China … I'm on Mac, she's on Windows. We use Sync, as Dropbox is blocked in China, and Sync requires a little more care than Dropbox in terms of making sure all uploads and downloads are complete before opening a project or closing the computer....... Re: Dropbox introduces three-device limit on free accounts

Maybe all of these people who are willing to throw money at KB to solve technical limitations that are not of his making and that he has no control over might be willing to do some of the legwork to research other alternatives *in depth* and find out if any of them have significantly changed so tha...

Re: Writing & Notetaking - Starting Grad School

Considering that the OP asked eleven years ago and might have moved on since, I think your (very helpful) response earns you the golden internet archaeology award. :D No offence BTW None taken. It'll teach me to check the date on posts before replying. My sole defence is that it was early in the mo...

Re: Linking docs within a Scriv project file

Welcome. ............you can also create your own text / label and then use the same method to link that to a specified file (i.e. the link itself doesn't have to mirror the name of the text or image file being linked to). ......... I did know but thanks for the reminder Good luck with your project...

Does this help?
Add Document Link.gif
Slàinte mhòr.
Yes thanks. Must have been asleep but thought that only applied to docs outside the project.
Thanks for the help - solved it perfectly. :)

Re: Linking docs within a Scriv project file

Something like the attached? Yes thanks that's pretty much how I was looking to do it. The only minor difference is that I have all my Will notes in one folder and the Will images in a separate folder, but the principle is the same. So, next question is how did you do it :D I can't deduce anything ...

Linking docs within a Scriv project file

Within my Scriv project I have a series of images of an old Will contained within a folder inside the research folder. There are several of these relating to different Wills. I have a separate folder within the research folder which contains my notes on each of these Wills. There are in fact several...

Re: Writing & Notetaking - Starting Grad School

Hello! I've been reading a number of forums, trying to decipher the best software fit for my needs. I think Scrivener may fit the bill, but I'm not sure whether it will be the best fit, or whether I will need to pair it with another program, such as Journler or Circus Ponies. Support for Journler i...

Re: Scrivner3.0 for MAC + WhiteSmoke???

The only software I know of that does something similar to Whitesmoke is Perfectit. I've never used it but many proofreaders and editors in the UK do so and recommend it. Might be worth a look, but due to the absence of a plugin architecture none of these add-ons are likely to work as well with Scri...

Re: Mac crashed: where to retrieve Scrivener data?

As mbbntu suggested, talk to the 'laptop doctor' and ask him to log into your Dropbox account from another machine with a web browser as I suggested above? You can always change the password afterwards. Dropbox itself will keep backups on their servers for a limited period and using another machine ...

Re: Mac crashed: where to retrieve Scrivener data?

If you have access to a working machine try this: Using a web browser - Safari/Firefox - login to your DropBox account (you don't say whether this a paid account or free) View - files which should take you to a page showing your files and folders (or those that are left) On the RHS of this page unde...
