Re: Tracking story submissions to multiple publications using Outliner?

I track my pitches to magazine editors using Scrivener and I use labels to categorise each submission (yellow for waiting for response, green for commissioned, red for rejected, etc). Might that help?

Re: High Sierra warning!

I don’t know if this is the reason, but I was investigating whether to upgrade to High Sierra, and many Apple websites suggest holdng off, unless your machine only has an SSD drive. If it has a Fusion Drive (mix of SSD and HDD) then hold off because the new file system doesn't like the HDD at the mo...

Re: trouble with compiling

Don't know if this helps, but when you're in Editor mode, and you look under the Notes section, there's a General heading - is 'Include In Compile' box checked? (these needs to be checked for every 'sheet/document' you have.

Re: Scrivener for organizing my book data?

Don't write Scrivener off just yet. Scrivener 3 is rumoured to have more customisable meta-data options. (I'm sure I've read posts to this effect, but obviously there's no release date yet - and I also appreciate that you are a Windows user, so I don't know when Windows may get the 3 release.)

Re: Scrivener for organizing my book data?

I don't see why you couldn't use Scrivener for this. You can put front covers in the synopsis field. You could create separate keywords for the publisher and various isbns, publication date, etc. Use the editor for any notes about characters. If you use keywords (custom metadata) then you'd have an ...

Re: Setting up Mac to sync to iOS

Yes, as lund says.

I only keep my 'active' Scrivener projects on Dropbox. So I have an 'Active Projects' folder on there and drag the relevant files to that. I then pointed my iOS version to point to this folder. It works well, without any problems.

Re: Typewriter Sounds in Full Screen/Composition Mode

If I understand you correctly, you can customise the transparency of the text background in full screen mode. Drop your mouse to the bottom of the screen to access the menu bar, and it's the slider on the far right (see picture) Screenshot 2017-03-18 22.25.01.png . Not sure about the sounds though :D

Re: Newbie Questions—Layout

Are you exporting to Word just to print it out? I like to read a draft on paper, so I print the contents of the editor page. (Cmd+P). If I want to print a chapter (a folder of sheets) I select the folder in the Binder, click in the editor pane and then print the whole chapter. That way, any changes ...

Re: Fantastic...except

You can view non-printable characters by selecting the option from the menu, or the pilcrow button on your toolbar (you may need to use customise toolbar to add it to your toolbar), but that will show you extra soaces between words.

I hope that helps (a bit).

Re: Moving to Mac from Windows

I don't know if this helps, but many of us have our Scrivener projects saved on Dropbox. (When you create an account with Dropbox it puts a folder on your hard drive. Everything you put in that folder gets synchronised with a copy in the 'cloud'.) If you did this, then when you get your Mac, you cou...

Re: Thank you so much!

I'd like to add my thanks, too. From just playing about for a few minutes, I can see how much I'm going to be able to do, just on the iPad. Typically, getting my hands on it wasn't easy as BT's broadband network suffered an outage in many places across the UK, and didn't get sorted until mid-morning...

I could be wrong here, but in the Inspector panel on the right, is the 'include in compile' checkbox ticked? I had a similar problem once which was resolved by doing this.

Re: Adding More White Space Between Scenes?

Yes, you can. I've set this up in my template, so it's been a while since I've done this, so bear with me! When you compile, there is the option to insert a custom break (usually an asterisk). Click in this box (in front of the asterisk) and, while holding down the Alt key (I think ... You might nee...

Re: Word count per chapter?

Hi, I don't know if this helps, but if you select all the files (in a chapter) in your binder, so the editor displays them all, the total wordcount will be displayed at the bottom of the editor. I use folders for my chapters, so I just select a folder in the binder, and the editor pane displays the ...

Re: "Save as" box is black

For what it's worth, I think it's an El Capitan problem. Although I experience this with Scrivener I also experience this occassionaly with other programmes too.
