Scrivener 3 on the Mac App Store and a Guide for Scrivener 2 Users

Scrivener 3 is now available on the Mac App Store, and we have a Scrivener 3 migration guide available for users of Scrivener 2.

Scrivener 3 on the Mac App Store

Scrivener 3 is now available on the Mac App Store for $45, so if you've been waiting to buy from there, please head over the App Store and grab it if you haven't already. Scrivener 3 is a paid update (our first in seven years) that provides major improvements and a refreshed UI and codebase. If you already own Scrivener 2, please do bear in mind that it is not possible to offer update pricing on the Mac App Store (this is just a limitation of the platform), so if you want to buy from Apple, you will need to pay full price again. If you are happy to get the update from our store, however, you can email us with proof-of-purchase and we'll send you a discount code so that you can get the update for the same price as users who bought Scrivener 2 from us direct ($25). Please see this page for full details on the Scrivener 3 release, and for how to get the update pricing from our store.

A Guide for Scrivener 2 Users

If you have updated to Scrivener 3 from Scrivener 2 and are looking for a guide on how to bring across your Preferences and Compile presets, I've put one together here:

Scrivener 3 Update Guide for Scrivener 2 Users

The guide is itself a Scrivener 2 project. You open it in Scrivener 3 and follow hands-on instructions on how to update a Compile preset, where to find some of the features that have been moved, and more. (You don't need to read this guide if you are new to Scrivener, or if you found the transition to Scrivener 3 easy. It is mainly for Scrivener 2 users who want more guidance on adapting old Compile presets to Scrivener 3 and on some of the other changes.)

Thank You

It's fair to say that last week, following Scrivener 3's release on Monday, was our busiest ever. Thank you to all our amazing users who were so keen to upgrade, and for the many kind words we have received. (A big thank you to our amazing support staff, too, who were working all hours to get through the thousands of emails.)

I would really like to be able to format text in the Synopsis panels of the Inspector and (by extension) the Corkboard. If I could color, bold it, underline it, etc. it would help me in organizing the complexities of primary, secondary and tertiary events, off stage events, minor mentions of something to set up a later revelation, etc.

In the video Getting Started–An Introduction To Scrivener 3, I enjoyed reading parts of the book that was used in the demonstration. How may I purchase it?

Hi, are there any grammar support for Swedish in this version? For example when I type an "i" it autocorrect it to capital "I" and that is not correct in Swedish. I also tried to purchase the windows version a week ago but it was not possible. I mailed you and received an answer that you would get back to me but no one did.

This is AWESOME! I'm totally familiar with Scrivener, but I do find the compiling process a bit disorienting. This guide will help lots. Always one step ahead, you guys as Scrivener!

@AmyG: It's unlikely the short summary field, what is designed to amount to a long title of sorts, will turn into a full-blown rich text editor any time soon. The Document Notes feature in the inspector might be a better place for more complicated exposition.

@Tweed: visit the Corrections preference pane and disable the option to **Capitalize 'i'**. Hopefully someone has got back with you at this point---support backlog is pretty big right now though.

Blown away by this program. After I get some help installing it from a demo version I'll have lots more question. Like how do change the fonts and sample templates. I'm sure that's in there but the biggest question I have is if there is a way to import about 15,000 notes into a project I'll call Too Many Years a NoteTaker in MacOS!

I would also like to know about Scrivener 3 for PC. I don't want to buy version 2 if the new version 3 is almost ready.

You'll have a much better time getting info on that in the forum, under Windows Beta Testing. There you will find a link to the beta download, if you want to play around with it, and otherwise read the list of things being worked on and what has changed recently.

Meanwhile, as noted in a prior blog post, if you buy Scrivener 1 for Windows right now you're buying version 3 as well.

I can only assume that the dearth of information about Scrivener 3 for Windows means that this like the Linux version have been abandoned. That is too bad. Scrivener has gone over to the MAC platform to the exclusion of all others. to have no updates in well over a year, and to be told the the Windows will be arriving later, generally means that the Window update is vaporware.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the correction would be a Window3 version.

@GEH

You're wrong.

Your cynical comment reveals you haven't been paying attention.

As of this post, there have been 6x, count 'em, 6x beta Windows versions released since Nov '17.

With each beta, more new features and functionality is being revealed.

In case you don't know anything about software development, that indicates a steady drumbeat to v3 release for Windows.

Consider yourself corrected. :)
