macOS 10.14 Mojave and Scrivener

Mojave is out today, and Scrivener 3.1 won't be too far behind.

As many Mac users no doubt know, macOS 10.14 Mojave is out today. The good news is that Scrivener 3.0.3 runs perfectly fine on Mojave, so those who wish to upgrade can do so without fear of it breaking Scrivener.

One thing to note, however, is that when you make use of dark mode - Mojave's biggest new addition - Scrivener 3.0.3 will remain light. But fear not - dark mode support is coming very soon, with Scrivener 3.1. Supporting dark mode has involved significant changes to Scrivener's code base, so we still need to do a little more testing and tweaking before 3.1 is ready.

In the meantime, here's a little sneak peek.

I'm already using Dark Mode and love it. The sneak peak looks great. Can't wait for it to debut.

Fantastic! I'd just stopped by after installing Mojave to see if the rumors were true. Scrivener has been my goto app for writing ever science switching over from Ulysses, but it still didn't have a full Dark Mode. But soon... At last it will be soon...

Keith, may your code be ever clean and your bugs few! Thanks heaps!

Now to check out Xcode in Dark Mode in the meantime... ;^)

I'm not sure if I'll like a Dark Mode for Scrivener 3. Will there be a way to choose to keep Scrivener in Light Mode even if I have Dark Mode enabled on my Mac?

Given how extensively we can already customize the colors in virtually every aspect of Scrivener, it seems to me the most we'll gain from full dark mode support is … dark frames!

Thanks all!

Eric - yes, absolutely. There's a new "Appearance" submenu of the "Scrivener" menu that allows you to choose whether Scrivener should use the system default appearance or instead force a permanent light or dark appearance. You can also choose to keep the main editors light even while the rest of the app is dark.

Can't wait for dark mode. Can we get a rough ETA? Are we talking days, weeks, or months?
With everything else I use now in dark mode, the brightness of Scrivener is killing my eyes.
Love the preview, and of course I love Scrivener. Eagerly awaiting 3.1

So glad to hear about this dark mode!! This is actually something I've been wanting since even before apple announced mojave was going to have a dark mode. For shorter fiction I use FocusWriter with a black background and semi-orange text, so it is immersive and dark mode (and reminds me of an old word processor —or maybe it was a DOS based program—like my grandmother wrote on after she got rid of her typewriter). I was glad that scrivener had the immersive setting but I was sad that it didn't have dark mode—until now! Any chance you'll be able to customize the text color in dark mode?

Hey! sorry about my ignorance in previous post. It appears that I can already adjust the colors! so much I still don't know about this great program

What a brilliant addition, fantastically shaped to enable night work and Mojave compatibility. I really can't wait, though I consider the delays justified. As much as I'm checking up on the update quite frequently, I wouldn't trade one bit of functionality and stability in my Scrivener experience.

This will be going to have the mac os 10-14 where it will be going to update the part for fiction part where it will go to place it https://oniton.com/blog/fix-canon-printer-error-b200/ for the assumption to which it will be going to place it.

My version of Scrivener 3 has stopped working on Mojave OSX10.14 and 10.14.1. No access at all. It was working on Mojave but has suddenly developed this error. It is reporting an un-captured exception error do do with colours (I think).

Has anyone else reported this bug because, as it stands, I cannot use Scrivener 3 at all?

I'm using a mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina 15".

Just realised that it is 3.1 that's crashing on start-up. I had to wait for the crash report to know that I had 3.1

Hi Maccus,

I am also having this exact problem. This problem occurs on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro Retina 15" also. I have no problem accessing my scrivener from my 2018 iMac Pro running the exact same 10.14 Mojave.

I'm having the same problem too. Scrivener 3.1 wont open immediately after updating. I wan't to revert to a previous version but I'm pretty sure thats not possible.

I'm running MacOS Mojave (10.14) with a 2018 macbook pro

In your updates, could you please fix the issue with # showing up after every paragraph when one tries to compile!! I am not sure what purpose this serves, but it is ridiculously difficult to work around. Thanks.

I have an issue in dark mode where the comments are automatically set to a black background and black text, making the text invisible. I then have to manually highlight the text to be able to read it. Is there any way around this? Many thanks!
