Script Frenzy 2011 Special Trial Edition

“A mental playground to organize my thoughts... Scrivener has so many useful features, there's almost too many to list... I've tried other writing programs for the Mac, but none of them really fit my style. If I had the brains and the patience, Scrivener is the program I would've written for myself. Try it, you'll be hooked.”
- Mike Sussman, writer-producer, Star Trek: Voyager, Enterprise, Threshold, Sam Raimi's Legend of the Seeker.
More Testimonials...

Writing a book, script, short story or research paper is about more than hammering away at the keys until it's done. Research, scrawling fragmentary ideas that don't seem to fit anywhere yet, collecting faded photos from old newspapers, shuffling index cards to find that elusive structure - most writing software is only fired up after much of the hard work is already done. Enter Scrivener: writing software that stays with you from that first, unformed idea all the way through to the first - or even final - draft. Outline and structure your ideas. Take notes. Storyboard your masterpiece using a powerful virtual corkboard. View research while you write. Track themes using keywords. Dynamically combine multiple scenes into a single text just to see how they fit. Scrivener has been enthusiastically adopted by best-selling novelists, academics, lawyers, journalists and professional screenwriters - whatever you write, grow your ideas in style.

Script Frenzy 2011 Trial

We're excited to be official sponsors of Script Frenzy again for 2011. To celebrate, as well as sponsoring the main event, we're also providing a special trial version of Scrivener for those who would like to test out Scrivener during the month of Script Frenzy - and some great discounts for participants and winners.

Special Trial Version: Scrivener's trial normally runs for thirty days of use. But, so that you can try out Scrivener before Script Frenzy starts this year and then use the trial throughout the event, the trial version that you can download on this page starts as soon as you download it and will run right through to the 7th May. So you can download it in March, get used to its features, gather your research and start your outlining, use it for your writing throughout April, and then if you like it you can buy at a discounted price using one of the discount offers below.

50% Discount for All Script Frenzy 2010 Winners: If you achieve your 100 pages this year to become a Script Frenzy Winner, you will be eligible for a 50% discount off the regular licence of Scrivener (which is normally $45 for the Mac version and $40 for the Windows version). Details will appear on your winner's page on the Script Frenzy website in early May.

20% Discount for Everyone Else: Even if you don't make your 100 pages this year, you can still get 20% off the regular price of Scrivener by entering the discount code "SCRIPTFRENZY" in the coupon code text field of our online web store. (Note that the Windows version is not yet on sale at the time of writing as it is currently in the final stages of beta testing, but it should be available before April is through.)

Getting Started
To get started, first click on one of the download links below to download the Scrivener Script Frenzy trial for either Mac or Windows:

Download for Mac

Download for Windows

Instructions for Mac Users
If you're downloading for Mac, the trial will download as a .dmg (disk image file). When you open that in the Finder, a window will appear prompting you to drag the Scrivener icon to your Applications folder. Do so, then eject the disk image from the "Devices" sidebar in the Finder. After that, you can launch Scrivener from your Applications folder (or you can drag it to the Dock from the Applications folder for easy access).

Instructions for Windows Users
The Windows trial will download as an .exe installation file. When it's downloaded, if the process doesn't start automatically, double-click on the Scrivener-020-installer-Script-Frenzy.exe file. Then follow the on-screen instructions.

I also recommend taking fifteen minutes to watch the introductory video, in which I go through the main features of Scrivener. After that, to really get up to speed, you can go through the interactive tutorial in the program itself by choosing "Tutorial" from the Help menu.

Introductory Video for the Windows Version

More tutorial videos can be found here:

(Note that the videos at the above link were all made for the Mac version and not all may apply to the Windows version. The Mac version has been around for nearly five years, whereas the Windows version is brand new and we are just finishing off development, so there are naturally more resources and tutorials available for the Mac version at the moment. We will be adding Windows-specific tutorials over the coming months, but in the meantime the Mac ones cover many features that are applicable to both versions.)

Script Frenzy Project Template After going through the interactive tutorial project, pick File > New Project to open the templates chooser and create a new project. This special Script Frenzy trial comes with a Script Frenzy project template which you can find under the "Scriptwriting" section of the templates chooser.

Note that the only difference between the Script Frenzy trial and our regular trial version is the provision of this template and the fact that the Script Frenzy trial will last longer. Apart from the time limitation, the trial version has all the features of the regular version.

If you have any questions, be sure to drop us a line.

Good luck getting those 100 pages this year!
