Each document in a Scrivener project is associated with a synopsis, which can be viewed as an index card on the corkboard or as a row in the outliner. In the above screenshot, Scrivener's interface has been set up to work like a traditional three-pane outliner, with the contents list on the left, the outline at the top, and the text of the selected document at the bottom. Scrivener's interface is designed to fit the way you work, rather than forcing you to work around its interface.

In the above screenshot, the text of the selected document is on the right instead of at the bottom, accommodating a widescreen set-up. The rows of the outliner have here been set to take on the label colour that has been associated with each document.
