I desperately could use the ability to create automatically hierarchical numbered and hierarchical non-numbered lists just like the way Word does it. Can this be included in a future dot-update to Scrivener 3? This feature is much needed to help outline thoughts within a document.

The simple bullet and listing tool you are referring to is a function of the underlying macOS text engine. We have no way of modifying its core behaviour or making it better without scrapping the whole thing and starting from scratch—i.e. not the sort of thing you can just toss into a minor bug fix update. ;)

By the way did you know each document in Scrivener has its own built-in outliner? Hit Cmd–3 and think away. If you set those thoughts to be excluded from compile then you can even leave them there for as long as you need.
