I am going crazy with this! Because the "marquee selection tool" does not work when items are inside of a background (even when magnetic is turned off), the only option is to hold the shift and select multiple items. However clicking on an item more often than not MOVES the item instead of selects it!! What am I doing wrong?

Or is this a bug? It seems broken that I can have three items selected, go to select a fourth and the thing moves instead of selecting!! Why would I want to move a single item when I already have 3 others selected?

Even when I just go to select a single item more often than not it moves the item! Very, very frustrating because I am at the point of trying to get final details of grouping and alignment done on a pretty involved project.

I LOVE SCAPPLE!! Just frustrated with this behaviour!

This is an unfortunate side-effect of a change Apple made to the threshold of its detection on whether a mouse click is a click or a click-and-drag. Before the change, the Mac had a very small amount by which you could “jiggle” the pointer while clicking. That was removed and now with some mice in particular it can be exceptionally difficult to click without clicking and dragging.

It is something we can fix, by introducing our own threshold. So it shouldn’t be this way forever.

Thank you!! That is good to know and good to know there is a fix on the way.

That said, until I update my computer, I may not be able to use the fix. I am using Scapple on a 2009 MacBook Pro using El Capitan. It has served me well but is getting to be near the end of its life because it is old enough that the newest operating system (Sierra) cannot be used. A new Mac is somewhere in my future; but not yet.

Thanks again!

Yeah I can't speak for minimum requirements on Scapple updates at this time, but unless we run into a snarl with it, I think the plan is to continue serving the current list of supported systems. So you might be able to apply the update.

Scrivener is another matter though, if you use that. Too much has changed to make it viable below 10.12.

I actually was using Scapple to map out my business plan for growing my website (well a new one) so hopefully a new computer will be in the funding I am working on. Because yes, I do use and love Scrivener! This computer has served me well but is definitely starting to show its age - not only in terms of the operating system!
