Re: How An “Index-Creating” Algorithm Might Work

For the layman, could you please explain what this is doing and how it works, in detail, step by step? Basically: ⋅  Open the attached sample project on my previous message. ⋅  Open File ▸ Compile... and select from either MultiMarkdown->ODT or Pandoc->DOCX (you’ll need Pandoc i...

Re: How An “Index-Creating” Algorithm Might Work

Yeah, you can insert raw XML into the .docx file with Pandoc—very similarly to how I inserted raw ODT XML in the example project. For reference, here is what the ODT style settings look like: Prefix : `<text:alphabetical-index-mark-start text:id="<$n:index>"/>`{=odt} Suffix : `<text:alphab...

Re: Projects not in recommended location

The scrivener files are in my dropbox in in a scrivener folder inside an “apps” folder . I thought that WAS a recommended place. So 1. what does that warning mean? The warning states what the problem is in the message itself. Here is a knowledge base article on the matter. I cannot open any Scriven...

Re: How An “Index-Creating” Algorithm Might Work

Scrivener already does inline indexing! ;) indexing_example.zip Compile that as configured, open in LibreOffice, and generate an index at the bottom of the file. You’ll see the two words marked green in the editor have been properly indexed. One could probably also use a similar technique for .docx,...

Re: Scrivener 3.1 Manual

By the way, my browser extension of the year award goes to Vimium . While it is listed as a Chrome-only extension, it also works fine in Vivaldi and there is a Firefox version as well. The best part about it for me is the ‘f’ key, which brings up a hot key driven link navigation overlay. To submit t...

Re: Printing text on the margins / gutter

How would you manage this? Compile to Latex and do it there? That’s certainly how I would do it, though with one small tweak to how you thinking: you don’t have to do this in LaTeX after you compile—rather, Scrivener can be instructed to generate the syntax you need up front. Depending on how far a...

Re: Restoring from dropbox versions?

I’d stress that you should make a zipped copy of the original restored project on Dropbox before doing this. It should be a safe procedure, but it’s always a good idea to do so before messing with the internal contents of a project. Dropbox considers folders ending in .scriv to be a “package” that u...

Re: 'Replace' greyed out?

Just for the sake of clarity, the Find function is working perfectly. It’s the lack of Replace that I’m contending with. That’s correct, Find will locate the text even though the characters are technically different, but the internal check that determines whether or not the Replace button can be us...

Re: 'Replace' greyed out?

Ah, I bet that’s the “fuzzy” punctuation search that is the culprit. What is in your text file is probably “it’s”, instead of the “it's” (straight apostrophe) typed into the Find field. So while “Find” is locating punctuation variation, “Replace” is being more strict about it and considering it a di...

Re: Image won't compile in either Mobi format

To clarify, is this a result you are getting in Kindle Previewer, Calibre and so forth, or are you looking at the thumbnail that is cached into the end-user reader software/device? The latter requires one to flush the thumbnail cache to see new book covers, if one has already been cached for it. I’v...

Re: Image won't compile in either Mobi format

Front matter isn’t the best way to set the cover image directly. That setting is found in the Cover tab of the compile overview screen, on the right side. http://www.literatureandlatte.com/forum_images/18291760-scriv-ebook_cover_settings.png As you may note there is an option there to have it use th...

Re: 'Replace' greyed out?

The Replace function will be disabled under the following conditions: ⋅  The selected text in the editor does not match the text in the Find field. This is to protect against accidentally wiping out your entire chapter, etc. ⋅  The Replace field is empty. If you need to delete st...

Re: How to set target word count for folder?

There is perhaps an easier way of doing this—this is what I do anyway: ⋅  Click on the container I want to add a target for. ⋅  Turn off the current group view mode from the View menu. For example if I’m using the Corkboard I’ll press ⌘2 . ⋅  Set the target in the foote...

Re: How to write an image caption in MMD to copy into Wordpress?

I want to write in Scrivener bc I want to leverage all the organizational benefits of Scrivener, I also would like to have to do as little as possible getting it into Wordpress and published. That is always my goal as well. I’m not afraid to put a little effort into getting a system set up so that ...
